Mayor Taylor Swift? Newly Published List Reveals Surprising Celebrity Write-Ins for N.Y.C. Mayor
New York City Mayor Bill DeBlasio won a second term a few weeks ago — despite, as it turns out, having some pretty famous competition.
A list of all the people who received votes in the 2017 N.Y.C. mayoral election was released by the city’s Board of Elections on Wednesday, and it has a few familiar names on it. Quite a few, in fact: Though there was a lighter turnout for this year’s mayoral election than in years past, The New York Times reported that there were more write-in votes than ever.
And it turns out there are a lot of big names that New Yorkers would like to see move into Gracie Mansion, the mayor’s residence.
DeBlasio’s predecessor, Michael Bloomberg, was the most popular write-in candidate, nabbing almost 1,000 votes. Hillary Clinton was a popular write-in candidate, too, receiving 240 votes city-wide. Barack Obama got a few votes, as well. So did Michelle Obama. And the other famous names?
Well, there were plenty from the entertainment world, including:
Taylor Swift.
New York (and global) icon of screen and stage Barbra Streisand.
Red-sweater-wearing, debate-question-asking, undecided voter Ken Bone.
Curb Your Enthusiasm‘s Larry David.
Soul singer Nina Simone, who has been dead for almost 15 years.
Rihanna, with her full name, Robyn Rihanna Fenty, included in the ballot.
Real Housewife of New York Bethenny Frankel.
Bill Murray, possibly from a ghost-fearing New Yorker.
Radio host Howard Stern.
Broad City star Ilana Glazer.
Bette Midler, who is currently performing on Broadway in Hello, Dolly!
Beyoncé, with a surprisingly low five votes.
Composer Stephen Sondheim.
Bruce Springsteen, though his name was spelled incorrectly.
The late David Bowie.

Rolling Stones rocker Keith Richards.
Lady Gaga.
