Mayim Bialik has been a celebrity since she was young, but to her kids, she’s just Mom.

The Big Bang Theory actress has intentionally kept her two sons, Miles and Frederick, whom she shares with ex-husband Michael Stone, away from her career in Hollywood.

However, with a Ph.D. in neuroscience from UCLA, Bialik also has another title: neuroscientist. She uses her expertise to homeschool her sons and write books to engage kids in STEM learning. Bialik's graphic novel anthology, Flash Facts, came out in 2021. She told PEOPLE Miles and Frederick thought the combination of science and superheroes was “pretty cool.

"Normally, they think I'm really lame," she said. "So, this was one of the times when I actually got a load of, 'Hey, that's pretty cool, Mom.' "

While Bialik and Stone divorced in 2012 (the Jeopardy! host is currently in a relationship with Johnathan Cohen), the two have been dedicated to healthy co-parenting. “Divorce isn’t the end of a family,” Bialik once wrote on her website. “It’s the end of a nuclear family, it’s the end of a family living in one house, but we still have responsibilities to each other’s families and to our kids as a family.”

Here's everything to know about Mayim Bialik’s two kids, Miles and Frederick.

Bialik's older son, Miles Roosevelt Bialik Stone, was born on Oct. 11, 2005. When Miles was young, Bialik "chose not to use nannies or babysitters” and became a proponent of attachment parenting.

“[It’s] not because we think we’re better than anyone else, but it’s just a personal decision that we want to be the caregivers for our kids,” Bialik told PopStar.com in 2010 of her decision to parent with no help. “So we’re making it work that way, because that’s what we feel is best for our children, and everything else fits in around that. To us, nothing is more important than being with our children at any given point of the day.”

According to Bialik, Miles showed an outgoing personality early on. “My 10-year-old is being very sassy, as I’m told 10-year-old boys can be,” she told PEOPLE in 2015. “He’s definitely got some of that 10-year-old swagger. He’s wearing a little leather jacket with his sweatpants around the house just really strutting his stuff.”

The Blossom star also shared with PEOPLE the following year that Miles developed an affinity for the piano. “My older son has really gotten into piano,” she explained. “He’s been playing classical music so he learned ‘Moonlight Sonata’ and he just wants to play it all the time.”

The actress continued, “Then I taught him ‘Let It Be’ this weekend, and I sing and he accompanies me. It’s really, really funny.”

And while Bialik has previously called parenting “very, very humbling," she claims to be a "fun mom."

"I'm a fun mom," she told ABC News in 2013. "My boys think of me as fun but I definitely have a lot of my parents' strong work ethic and emphasis on chores. When they ask for an allowance for their chores, I say, 'I don't get paid for my chores. I’m not paying you for yours.' "

Bialik also has Miles to thank for her Jeopardy hosting gig. While guest-hosting the show in 2021, she revealed: "As I start my second week of guest-hosting Jeopardy!, I want to thank my 15-year-old, Miles. He was the one who first suggested I give this a try and I hope I am making him and his little brother, Frederick, proud."

She would later go on to become a permanent co-host with Ken Jennings.

Bialik's younger son, Frederick Heschel Bialik Stone, was born on Aug. 15, 2008. He was named after Bialik’s grandfather, Frederick, and Rabbi Abraham Heschel, who marched with Martin Luther King Jr.

“He was born after a remarkably fast and beautiful natural one-and-a-half hour labor at our home, assisted only for the final pushing stage of labor!” Bialik told PEOPLE, adding that she used hypnosis for pain management. “Our 3-year-old, Miles, watched the whole thing from his highchair while eating granola!”

Shortly after Fred was born, Bialik told Entertainment Tonight she was considering returning to acting and "sticking a toe back into the industry." She added, "I am very happy I got my degree and I worked very hard on my theses, but in terms of having kids and the family life we have, academia right now is not where I can go.”

However, Bialik still chose to keep her young sons away from her career in the spotlight. “I feel when they’re closer to the age I was when I was in Beaches, for example, I would love to show them what my life was like then," she told PEOPLE when her kids were 7 and 4, "but there’s so many other things about me that I think are more interesting, important and sometimes annoying to them. I think that’s enough of an identity.”

She also revealed that her sons only came to one taping of The Big Bang Theory. However, as Fred and Miles have gotten older, Bialik has exposed them to more of her work. Bialik even said in 2015 that she planned to show her kids her breakout series Blossom when they turned 14.“ A lot of the topics that we dealt with I think are more appropriate for 14 and above, which is how old I was, so that feels right,” she told PEOPLE.
