Jeopardy! fans, get ready to enjoy more episodes of your favorite quiz show with the upcoming debut of Celebrity Jeopardy! — that will likely have Mayim Bialik standing at the lectern.

On May 17, ABC announced the Jeopardy! franchise is expanding with a new primetime spinoff series similar to the likes of Celebrity Wheel of Fortune and Celebrity Family Feud. According to Variety, the news broke during the ongoing media industry event Upfronts 2022 where TV networks announce their fall schedules and advertisers bid for commercial airtime. Among the dozen of scripted and unscripted shows airing on the alphabet channel later this September is Celebrity Jeopardy!. Although there were several details revealed about what folks can expect to see, ABC stopped short of sharing who was going to host it.

“A host will be announced at a later date,” a note read alongside the new show announcement, per Variety. “It’s really just about the details of the announcement,” ABC executive Craig Erwich told the outlet. “And we just are not ready yet, but we will be soon. I wouldn’t read anything into it.”

That said, he clarified Mayim’s exclusion in the announcement did not mean that she was not going to host. In other words, the current Jeopardy! cohost could very well pull double duty again leading different hours of the trivia show. As folks know, apart from cohosting Jeopardy! with legend Ken Jennings, The Big Bang Theory actress has also lead season 38’s National College Championship and Professors Tournament.

What’s more, Ken also shared that a Second Chance Tournament was in the works but there was no word about the host. On top of all this are questions about the highly anticipated Tournament of Champions 2022. In other words, there’s a lot to look forward to if you love Jeopardy!.

Hours after reports about Celebrity Jeopardy! and Mayim's alleged involvement emerged, the actress posted about attending Upfronts on behalf of her Call Me Kat cast, seemingly ignoring all the headlines.

At the moment, there's no premiere date for Celebrity Jeopardy!. The new show will feature celebrity contestants competing on behalf of a charity selected by them. It’ll also be executive produced by Michael Davies, who is behind Jeopardy! and its roster of tournaments, so folks can rest assured that Celebrity Jeopardy! will have a similar vibe.

As it turns out, this isn’t the first iteration of the newly announced installment. According to a Jeopardy! fandom site, Alex Trebek previously hosted Celebrity Jeopardy! with the first episode airing in October 1992. It was also sometimes called Power Players Week. Over the years, the show brought on more than 200 celebrities, including Anderson Cooper, Jodie Foster, Ashton Kutcher, Neil Patrick Harris and others. Per the blog, the special event last took place in May 2012.
