Mayim Bialik, Katie Couric, Bill Whitaker join lineup of Jeopardy! guest hosts

Jeopardy! has made its selection for its next guest hosts.

Mayim Bialik, Katie Couric, and 60 Minutes' Bill Whitaker will each host the iconic quiz show in the coming weeks, as part of the show's rotating lineup of guest hosts before a permanent successor to Alex Trebek is announced. The show also confirmed that Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers will host, after Rodgers broke the news early Tuesday. More guest hosts will be announced later in the season.

As a part of each guest host's appearance, Jeopardy! will make a donation to a charity of their choice, equal to the contestants' cumulative winnings during the weeks they serve as host.

"Alex was a legend, revered by all of us," Jeopardy! executive producer Mike Richards said in a statement. "I want to thank our guest hosts, who will not only help all of us celebrate his great legacy, but also bring their own touch to the show."

Richards previously teased the selection of guest hosts to EW, noting that the producers would be looking for "people that are credible giving the clues, people that can actually give the clues accurately, that are going to be able to rule right or wrong on the responses, and that Jeopardy! fans will enjoy in that role, but that will not try to make themselves the star."

"There'll be a wide range of, I think, big names that you'll go, 'Oh yeah, of course,' and then my hope is that there's a couple of, 'Oh, I hadn't thought of that person, and I'd like to see what that looks like hosting Jeopardy!'" Richards added.

Richards himself will also step in to host the show for two weeks after former contestant Ken Jennings' run of episodes concludes, to allow the guest hosts to prepare for their appearances. Jennings made his guest-hosting debut on Monday's episode, and honored Trebek in an emotional opening speech.

"Like all Jeopardy! fans, I miss Alex. Very much. And I thank him for everything he did for all of us," Jennings said, becoming choked up. "Let's be totally clear: No one will ever replace the great Alex Trebek, but we can honor him by playing the game he loved."

Trebek died Nov. 8, at 80, after a battle with pancreatic cancer. His final episode of Jeopardy! aired exactly two months later, on Jan. 8.
