Maya Hawke's lips are sealed when it comes to the final season of Stranger Things — even to her own dad.

In a recent interview with PEOPLE, actor and director Ethan Hawke, who is Hawke's dad, spoke about directing his daughter in the forthcoming film, Wildcat, which is set to be released on May 3. While directing Maya, Hawke said he had to be careful not to “fawn over” his daughter's talents when he was on set to ensure that he kept a professional environment.

“I worried I would fail her if I did that,” Hawke said. “I can be proud of her and geek out with so much joy when I watch Stranger Things… But when I'm directing her, I have a job to do which is to make sure we accomplish that goal.”

Speaking of Stranger Things, when asked if Maya had given Hawke any indication of how the final season of the hugely-popular Netflix show was going to end, he said that she has refused to reveal any spoilers.

“I nudge her for them and she won't give them up!” Hawke continued. “She says, 'You've got a big mouth.' So nope, not even to dear old dad.”

Maya Hawke plays Robin Buckley in the series and joined the cast for season three. Her character befriends Steve Harrington, played by Joe Keery when they work together at a local ice cream shop. The chemistry between Robin and Steve was so great that fans even pitched a spin-off series with just the two characters. Despite that, Maya also previously explained that she would be prepared for her character to die in the final season as well.

“Well, it’s the last season, so people are probably going to die. I would love to die and get my hero’s moment,” Maya told Rolling Stone in September. “I’d love to die with honor, as any actor would.”

In 2022, Stranger Things creators, the Duffer Brothers announced that season five would be the last season after premiering in 2016. Fans can rest assured that while the series may be coming to an end, the universe of the Upside Down and its characters might have spin-offs, as hinted by the Duffers. Filming for season five was initially scheduled to start in May 2023 but was delayed until September following the Hollywood strikes. An official release date has not yet been set, but it's likely to come either at the end of 2024 or the beginning of 2025.
