MAX Adding Live Sports Streaming Option To Service This Fall

MAX is looking to add sports to its streaming service. According to an official press release, the service formerly known as HBO MAX, is looking to add a live sports tier to MAX on Oct. 5, 2023.

The add-on incorporates Bleacher Report Sports branding to replace the Turner Sports name of old. For existing subscribers, the option will be free of charge until Feb. 29, 2024. The addition will only be offered a part of the streaming service. According to Sportsmedia.com, the service will be set at $9.99 after the promotional period ends.

MAX’s new service will offer live coverage of the NBA, US Soccer, NHL, and Major League Baseball. The Warner Bros. service will also feature the NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament in partnership with Paramount.

Along with professional sporting events, the new tier will also include The MatchThe Match is set to become a celebrity-focused golfing event, with more details to be announced at a later date. All live sporting events airing on TNT, TBS, and TruTV will be available on MAX as well.

Inside the NBA will be included in the package along with BR’s coverage of the NFL Draft. Professional athletes with their own podcasts will also be broadcasted on MAX’s new content arm. Athletes include Buffalo Bills’ Von Miller and Dallas Cowboys’ Micah Parsons.

The news arrives after HBO axed Winning Time from MAX’s slate of shows. Ahead of the show’s second season finale, the streaming giant’s X/Twitter acoount confirmed the series being canceled. “One final matchup. #WinningTime,” the account xweeted.

Minutes after, Winning Time’s co-creator Max Borenstein also spoke out to confirm the series’ demise. “Not the ending that we had in mind. But nothing but gratitude and love. #winningtime.” Director and executive producer Salli Richardson hit Instagram to talk about the untimely end. She called the sports show her most “proud” work.

“When you give it everything you’ve got, you can have no regrets,” Richardson stated. “I hope you enjoy the last episode of @winningtimehbo I am sure I will do many more hours of TV and hopefully many features in my future, but I can say that at this moment in time I am most proud of the work we did on this masterful show. #winningtime
