When Matty Matheson, the beloved Canada-born chef and restaurateur wrote his first two cookbooks, — 2018’s “Matty Matheson: A Cookbook” and 2020’s follow-up “Home Style Cookery” — he had no way of knowing that they would fly off the shelves nearly six years later. They each were immediate New York Times bestsellers when they first released, thanks to his cultish following in the food industries and a robust social media following, but with his latest Emmy win for “The Bear,” for which he serves as the executive producer and stars as the childhood friend of Carmy (Jeremy Allen White), his original recipes have found a whole new audience.

“Home Style Cookery,” in particular, began selling out following Matheson’s Emmy win but it’s now finally restocked on Amazon. The 368-page book of recipes is the chef’s “definitive guide to mastering your kitchen,” covering everything everything from pantry staples (breads, stocks, and pickles) to party favorites (dips, fried foods, and grilled meats), to weeknight go-tos (stews, pastas, salads), and special occasion showstoppers (roasts, smoked meats, and desserts). The 135 recipes include Molasses Bread in an Apple Juice Can, Beef and Bone Marrow Stock, Kitchen Sink Salad, Thanksgiving Stuffing Butternut Squash and Seven-Layer Dip.

Even before joining “The Bear” in 2021, Matheson always had several irons in the culinary fire, running restaurants like Cà Phê Rang, Prime Seafood Palace, Rizzo’s House of Parm (named after his daughter, Rizzo) and Fonda Balam, all under the umbrella of his hospitality company Our House. He’s been the face of numerous food programs such as Vice’s “Munchies,” “Dead Set on Life” and “It’s Suppertime” along with YouTube series “Cookin’ Somethin’ W/ Matty Matheson” and “Stupid F*cking Cooking Show.”

Matheson’s success has only continued with “The Bear,” which broke the record for most Emmy wins for a comedy series in its first season. While accepting the award for best comedy series, Matheson said “I just love restaurants so much – the good, the bad. It’s rough. We’re all broken inside and every single day we’ve got to show up and cook and make people feel good by eating something and sitting at a table, and it’s really beautiful.”
