Matty Healy Had the Most Infuriating Response to Taylor Swift’s New Songs About Him

Matty Healy had the most Matty Healy response to recent questions about The Tortured Poets Department.

This morning, the 1975 frontman was asked by paparazzi how he’d rate ex Taylor Swift’s “diss track” about him, compared to the other 30 songs on her new album. Healy, seemingly confused, responded: “My diss track?”

He added, “Oh, I haven’t really listened to that much of it [the album], but I’m sure it’s good.”

The track in question is “The Smallest Man Who Ever Lived,” in which Swift details the ways Healy hurt her, blindsided her, and gaslit her throughout their short-lived fling in the summer of 2023. The lyrics read:

’Cause once your queen had come
You’d treat her like an also-ran
You didn’t measure up
In any measure of a man

And I don’t even want you back, I just want to know
If rusting my sparkling summer was the goal
And I don’t miss what we had, but could someone give
A message to the smallest man who ever lived

Several other songs on The Tortured Poets Department are also clearly about Healy, including “Fortnight,” where she describes the pain she felt after he left, and sings about remembering the brief moments they shared.

While Swift and Healy only dated for about one month following her breakup from boyfriend-of-five-years Joe Alwyn, the singers go way back. They were romantically involved in 2014, and remained friends as they each pursued different relationships. Plus, as Swift sings in her track “Fresh Out the Slammer,” Healy was her first call when she became single again post-Alwyn.
