Keri Russell seems to always be on Matthew Rhys’ mind, and he made sure to give her a sweet shout out as she marked 25 years since her Golden Globes win.

In 1999, Russell won the award for best actress in a TV drama series for her role in Felicity, and Rhys reminded his wife of the anniversary on the red carpet during Variety and ET’s Golden Globes digital pre-show. She was shocked at her husband’s memory, as he pulled the year, 1999, out of his mind instantaneously when the win was brought up.

Rhys, 49, who met the Cocaine Bear actress on The Americans, said he is “incredibly proud” of Russell, 47, “always — but especially tonight,” in light of both the anniversary of her first win and her nomination at this year’s show.

Russell is once again nominated for best actress in a TV drama series — this time for Netflix’s The Diplomat. The nomination is her fourth overall. She was previously recognized in the same category by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association in 2017 and 2019 for her role in The Americans, alongside her now-partner.

Of the nomination, she said on the red carpet, “It’s such a fun show to be a part of. To be celebrated and acknowledged in this is just so fun.”

In the Netflix series, which was renewed for a second season within days of its premiere, Russell is Kate Wyler, the new U.S. Ambassador to the United Kingdom who finds herself at the center of an international crisis while her marriage hangs in the balance.

She told The Wrap that despite juggling three kids with Rhys, she was convinced to join the show after reading just one episode. “I was like, ‘F---, this is really good,’ ” she said.

“It was the first thing I’d wanted to do in a million years,” she told the outlet.

Felicity, which earned Russell her Golden Globe in 1999, aired from 1998 to 2002 and saw the actress as titular protagonist who followed her high school crush, Ben (Scott Speedman), to college.

In her acceptance speech for the award, she thanked the series’ creators, J.J. Abrams and Matt Reeves, as she called it “so special and different.”

“This is so… encouraging is the word that comes to mind, more than thanks,” Russell said. “Just to be able to do something that you’re so proud of, and that to be acknowledged, is huge.”

Like his wife, Rhys was also nominated twice for his role in The Americans, and in 2019 they joked about their plan to handle the night, should it go sideways.

“We’ve discussed that, whether in fact one of us wins,” Rhys said during the E! News pre-show, and Russell shared that their plan would be to “break up.”

“Yeah, if you win, I’m gone,” Rhys joked. “If I win, you’re gone.”
