Matthew Perry Shares Rare Photo with His Father, Actor John Bennett Perry

The 'Friends' star was joined by his father as they smiled for the camera while "both holding a beverage"

Matthew Perry is celebrating his bond with his father.

The Friends star, 54, shared a rare post to Instagram on Sunday as he posed for a heartwarming image with his father, John Bennett Perry.

"Here is me, and my father John, both holding a beverage," Matthew appropriately captioned the pic.

In the image, the Friends star and his dad, 82, stood arm-in-arm with smiles on their faces as they both drank out of see-though glasses.

The upload marked Matthew's second post since April, as just three days before he shared an image of his lawn with the caption, "Why can Elon Musk send a woman to the moon and not be able to invent a silent leaf blower?"

John, 82, has appeared in several films himself as an actor, including Independence Day and George of the Jungle, and even joined his son on screen in Fools Rush In in 1997.

He also appeared in an episode of Friends. In the season 4 episode The One with Rachel's New Dress, John played the father of Joshua, a man that Jennifer Aniston's Rachel dated.

Last year, Matthew told PEOPLE in a cover story that he was looking forward to the idea of being a father some day.

Speaking about his book, Friends, Lovers and the Big Terrible Thing, which documented his journey and struggles with addiction, the actor said that he used to be "afraid" of romantic relationships, but now he's ready. "I'm not run by the fear I used to be run by so everything's kind of different," Matthew said. "I'm feeling more confident and I'm not afraid of love anymore, so the next girl I go out with better watch out."

"I think I'd be great. I really do," he added of how he'd be as a father. "I grew up with a lot of little kids around me, and that's probably why, but I can't wait."

Matthew also has another father figure in his life in Dateline's Keith Morrison, who married Matthew's mother Suzanne in 1981. Morrison opened up about the relationship with his stepson in a 2020 interview with PEOPLE.

"He's one of those people who always is the center of the room for a reason and it was so as a kid," Morrison said at the time. "On the hockey team, I used to take him off to his hockey games on Saturday mornings. It was like Matthew and the hockey team. He was the one who scored all the goals. He was the guy. The same on the tennis court. He was extremely, extremely good on the tennis court and very intense."

"He's an intense, talented, focused character. He's very bright. That was always the case as he was growing up."
