Matthew Perry revealed that “Friends” co-star Jennifer Aniston “reached out the most” to support him as he struggled with his opioid addiction.

“Jennifer, she says, ‘We know you’re drinking,'” Diane Sawyer prompted the “Friends” star in an exclusive interview clip released Friday. “Yeah, imagine how scary a moment that was,” he replied. “She was the one that reached out the most. You know, I’m really grateful to her for that.”

Leading up to the release of his memoir, titled “Friends, Lovers and the Big Terrible Thing,” Perry explained he “nearly died” from abusing opioids after his colon burst four years ago at age 49.

“The doctors told my family that I had a 2% chance to live,” Perry told People. “I was put on a thing called an ECMO machine, which does all the breathing for your heart and your lungs. And that’s called a Hail Mary. No one survives that.”

In a preview for the interview that will air Friday, Oct. 28 on ABC, the actor underscored that while his professional projects, including “Friends,” reached the top of the charts, he had days where he took 55 Vicodin, methadone, Xanax and drank a full quart of vodka.

“I should have been the toast of the town, but I was in a dark room meeting with nothing but drug dealers and completely alone,” Perry said. “Secrets kill you; secrets kill people like me.”

Perry also explained why now was the right time to share this low point in his life, saying “it was important for me to do something that would help people.”

After receiving professional rehabilitation 15 times and having 14 surgeries on his stomach, the actor has said he has maintained his sobriety, though he has not revealed how long he has been sober.
