Matthew Perry’s former co-stars, including Friends Maggie Wheeler and Paget Brewster, are paying tribute following the actor’s surprising death Saturday evening.

The main Friends cast — Jennifer Aniston, Matt LeBlanc, Lisa Kudrow, David Schwimmer and Courteney Cox — has yet to share their own thoughts.

“What a loss,” Wheeler wrote in an Instagram caption Saturday. “The world will miss you Mathew Perry. The joy you brought to so many in your too short lifetime will live on. I feel so very blessed by every creative moment we shared.”

Wheeler played Friends’ Janice, the on-again-off-again girlfriend of Perry’s character Chandler Bing. She made appearances in all 10 seasons of the NBC sitcom during its run from 1994-2004.

Brewster, who had her own romantic arc with Perry on Friends in Season 4, wrote on X (fka Twitter): “I’m so very sad to hear about [Matthew Perry]. He was lovely to me on Friends and every time I saw him in the decades after. Please read his book. It was his legacy to help. He won’t rest in peace though… He’s already too busy making everyone laugh up there.”

“I’m heartbroken about the untimely death of my ‘son’, Matthew Perry,” Morgan Fairchild, who made guest appearances as Chandler’s mom in Friends between 1995-2001, wrote on X. “The loss of such a brilliant young actor is a shock. I’m sending love & condolences to his friends & family, especially his dad, John Bennett Perry, who I worked with on Flamingo Road & Falcon Crest.”

Kathleen Turner, who played Chandler’s other parent, said she was “very sad for Matthew” upon hearing of his death. “He had a good sense of humor and a good heart,” she said in a statement to People. “He liked other people, which to me, is terribly important, especially for an actor.”

Aisha Tyler, who appeared in the iconic sitcom as a paleontology professor who briefly dated Joey and then Ross, posted on Instagram: “He had a gentleness and generosity of spirit that was unparalleled. I learned how to tell a joke perfectly just by watching him work. And I will never forget the moment he leaned in, on my first night of taping Friends, to tell me warmly, ‘get ready for your life to change.’ Rest well, Matthew Perry. Thank you for the kindness and laughter.”

Laura Benanti, who played Go On’s Lauren Schneider opposite Perry’s Ryan King during the NBC sitcom’s 2012-2013 run, also paid tribute, writing in an Instagram story: “Matty was a generous, brilliant man of unparalleled talent. May his memory be a blessing.”

Also on Instagram, Perry’s former Odd Couple costar Yvette Nicole Brown wrote: “Our #OddCouple family suffered a great loss today. The entire entertainment world has. I am too sad about the news to say more than this: [Matthew Perry] was a sweetheart who deserved more peace in this life. I am heartbroken to hear of his passing. And am sad for the great talent the world has lost because of it. 54 is too young to go. We love you, Matty!”

Reports say Perry was discovered in his hot tub, but initial speculation that he had drowned has not been confirmed. It is now being reported that he was found unresponsive at his home Saturday afternoon by his assistant. According to TMZ, there were no drugs found at the scene and foul play is not suspected.

Perry’s TV credits include NBC’s Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip, CBS’ Odd Couple reboot and the short-lived sitcoms Mr. Sunshine (on ABC) and Go On (on NBC).
