Matthew Perry left out of BAFTA Film Awards In Memoriam, but will be remembered at TV Awards

The actor's omission raised a few eyebrows on social media.

Matthew Perry may have been left out of the In Memoriam at the 2024 EE BAFTA Film Awards on Sunday, but he'll be honored at the TV Awards.

“I can confirm Matthew Perry will be remembered in our forthcoming BAFTA Television Awards.” a BAFTA spokesperson told PEOPLE.

Reps for BAFTA did not immediately respond to EW's request for comment.

The In Memoriam segment, paying tribute to "friends and colleagues from the film industry," featured Ted Lasso's Hannah Waddingham performing a cover of Cyndi Lauper's "Time After Time."

But Perry's omission did not get past eagle-eyed viewers, who made their frustration known on social media, prompting a similar statement on X (formerly Twitter).

"Matthew Perry made plenty of films," one user wrote. "That was a poor decision."

Though best known for Friends, Perry had a film career that included more than a dozen credits, including Fools Rush In, The Whole Nine Yards, and 17 Again. When asked in 2022 if Chandler Bing from Friends was his "most treasured role," Perry responded, "I did a movie that I loved called Fools Rush In with Salma Hayek — that was probably my best movie."

Perry died Oct. 28 due to the "acute effects of ketamine" at age 54.

"Throughout the years, he and I found ourselves reminiscing about that meaningful time in our lives with a deep sense of nostalgia and gratitude," Hayek wrote of Perry after his untimely death.

The BAFTA Television Awards will air in May.
