Matthew Perry found dead at 54

“Friends” alum Matthew Perry has been found dead in a Los Angeles home, the Los Angeles Times reported.

With aid from sources in law enforcement, TMZ was the first to break the news of Perry’s death. His cause of death has not been confirmed but TMZ’s sources allege an accidental drowning. No foul play is suspected in the actor’s death.

The beloved actor starred perhaps most famously in the sitcom “Friends” as Chandler Bing from 1994 to 2004. He starred alongside Lisa Kudrow, Jennifer Aniston, Matt LeBlanc, Courteney Cox and David Schwimmer.

Perry’s sarcastic and witty portrayal of Chandler Bing through all 10 seasons won fans over and continues to garner appreciation of “Friends” as new generations discover the sitcom.

Over the course of his career, he acted in various other TV shows and movies, including “Beverly Hills 90210,” “Growing Pains,” “Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip,” “Fools Rush In,” “17 Again” and “The Whole Nine Yards.”

In 2013, Perry opened up to People magazine about his drug and alcohol abuse issues stemming from prescribed Vicodin following an accident in 1997.

“I had a big problem with alcohol and pills and I couldn’t stop,” Perry said, per People. “Eventually things got so bad that I couldn’t hide it, and then everybody knew.”

In the aftermath of his addiction and subsequent treatment, Perry dedicated much of his time to addiction advocacy, including opening a sober living facility for men in Malibu, California, called Perry House.

His advocacy earned him the Phoenix Rising Award from Phoenix House, an addiction treatment center in California, People reported in 2015.
