Matthew McConaughey’s Super Shady Christmas Eve With His Dad

Matthew McConaughey stopped by Late Night With Seth Meyers to promote his movies Sing and Gold. Matthew told Seth that his character in Gold reminded him of his dad and then shared a story about a time he and his dad went shopping on Christmas Eve.

Matthew was 17, and his dad told him they were going to get some last-minute stocking stuffers. The two hopped in the car and headed out, only Mr. McConaughey took a bit of a detour as they pulled into an abandoned mall parking lot. Matthew told Seth, “We go around bac … downed power lines, dumpsters, and a white van that flashes its lights at us. We pull up next to it. Pop says, ‘Stay here, this is Chicago John.'”

Matthew’s dad ended up buying something from Chicago John and got back into the car, where he eventually showed his son the goods. Matthew said, “And I’ll never forget my dad: He leans over, he’s like, ‘That’s a $22,000 titanium Rolex, and I just bought it for three grand.'” However, Mr. McConaughey probably should’ve gotten a gift receipt, because Matthew then told Seth, “That Rolex was not a Rolex. It wasn’t worth $400.”

Late Night With Seth Meyers airs weeknights at 12:35 a.m. on NBC.
