Matthew McConaughey's kids are celebrating their dad's achievement!

On Friday, the Dazed and Confused actor, 53, posted a joint Instagram with his 15-year-old son Levi, honoring his new book Just Because, that had just become a New York Times bestseller.

In celebration of the exciting news, McConaughey was surprised by two of his kids with a party, card and dinner.

"Congratulations," McConaughey's kids can be heard saying to their dad as the video begins. "I love you," son Livingston, 10, tells his father as he runs into the screen and gives McConaughey a hug.

"Thank y'all," the star says as he hugs Livingston and son Levi, 15. "Y'all were a big inspiration for this book."

"I have a teensy feeling you totally knew this was happening," one of his boys says from off screen as the camera shows a table filled with decorations in honor of McConaughey's book.

"Guys. Everybody. He's being throned," Livingston declares as he lifts a green beaded necklace onto his dad's neck.

The video then shifts to show a card presumably written by one of McConaughey's sons. "Look at that guy holding up the number one! New York Times number one and two smiley faces with a win on Tic-Tac-Toe," the actor says as he describes the card.

"Thank you. Thank you all very much," McConaughey tells his kids. "It's really cool. I got two books and both of them were number one New York Times bestsellers. It's pretty awesome."

The dad of three kept his caption simple, writing "Thank you #justbecausebook #1 New York Times bestseller."

McConaughey shares his three kids — sons Livingston and Levi and daughter Vida, 13 — with wife Camila Alves McConaughey, 41.

In early September, the New York Times bestselling author spoke with PEOPLE about the inspiration behind Just Because. "It came to me at 2:30 a.m. as a ditty in a dream," he revealed.

"It was a song in my mind, and I got up and wrote it down."

McConaughey, whose 2020 memoir Greenlights became a bestseller, said he hadn't consciously set out to write a children's book.

"Just being a dad, I mean, you’re thinking about your kids all the time [and] I think that afternoon, I’d been having conversations with my children about certain new things that they were crossing for the first time or, 'Well, this happened and I’m not sure how to feel about it. And I wanted to do this, but I felt I needed to do this, and I was confused,' " he said.

"Evidently it was in my subconscious… Once I knocked all the couplets down in the rhythm, it sort of wrote itself."
