Matthew McConaughey recently weighed in on Kate Hudson’s claim that they’ve always had difficult kissing scenes.

McConaughey told Yahoo Entertainment that a romantic scene from the 2008 movie “Fool’s Gold” was anything but during the filming.

The actor’s character embraces Hudson in the water after a plane crash and he agreed that “the elements” were to blame for any sloppiness on his part.

"Well, there's a lot of salt, water and snot and all kinds of stuff," McConaughey recalled about filming the scene. "And so you're doing that and you're like, 'okay, I think that worked, but did that look any good?'"

MATTHEW MCCONAUGHEY: I'm sorry. I love you. I learned a lot from my mistakes. Marry me.

BRITTANY JONES-COOPER: You discuss your time as a rom-com leading man. The way you write about him in the book, too, the face you were able to find in doing him and the joy you found while you were doing it definitely came across on the screen.

MATTHEW MCCONAUGHEY: Oh, good.

BRITTANY JONES-COOPER: And recently, Kate Hudson talked about you being an awkward kiss during "Fool's Gold."

MATTHEW MCCONAUGHEY: So many of Kate and I's kisses have been awkward. I mean, we still like, hey, can we ever get a kiss where it's just like the temperature's right and nobody's interrupting, the ocean's not wiping us away, nobody's dropping stuff on us above our head?

In "Fool's Gold," it's like, OK, here's the scene. You're in the middle of the ocean. You go under the water. So on Action, go under the water. And then come up out of the water like you're gasping for air, you're glad to be alive. Then you look at each other and you swim each other and going into an embrace.

There's a lot of salt water and snot and all kinds of stuff there in between all those. And so you're doing that, and you're like, OK, I think that worked, but did that look any good? And like, no, we'd better do another take.

So they were always like elements made it harder to have a-- we never got to have our nice romantic kiss yet.

BRITTANY JONES-COOPER: There's still time.
