Matt Lauer has 'no intention' of returning to television: Report

Matt Lauer reportedly has no plans to return to television following his termination from NBC News.

According to a new Page Six report published Thursday, Lauer has "no intention of trying to stage a professional comeback" as he continues to live at his family home in the Hamptons.

"Matt has no intention of returning to public life," a source told the outlet. "He plans to disappear and play golf. He wants to be a regular joe. To play golf and stay in the Hamptons. He has no intention of mounting a Billy Bush-style comeback campaign. He is going to stick to his one statement and not address the allegations further."

The one statement the source alluded to is Lauer's apology that aired on the "Today" show exactly a week ago, one day after he was fired from NBC's premiere morning show after NBC received a complaint about Lauer's alleged inappropriate sexual behavior in the workplace. Since his firing, numerous other women have come forward with subsequent sexual misconduct allegations.

"Some of what is being said about me is untrue or mischaracterized, but there is enough truth in these stories to make me feel embarrassed and ashamed," he said in a statement. "There are no words to express my sorrow and regret for the pain I have caused others by words and actions."

"To the people I have hurt, I am truly sorry," Lauer continued. "As I am writing this I realize the depth of the damage and disappointment I have left behind at home and at NBC. Repairing the damage will take a lot of time and soul-searching and I’m committed to beginning that effort. It is now my full-time job."

Since releasing the apology, Lauer has been spotted out and about in the Hamptons a handful of times, each time wearing his wedding band -- though new reports claim he's since taken his ring off. His wife, Annette Roque, though, was recently seen in Sag Harbor without her wedding ring on.

"They're taking it day-by-day right now," a source told People of the couple. "His focus is on his family."

"She's back in the Hamptons to take care of the kids," a source told Page Six. "This has taken a huge toll. She's painfully thin. People at her kids' school are concerned."

Before Lauer's bombshell firing from "Today," the couple was already "living separately," source say. Roque was reportedly living full-time in their Hamptons home, while Lauer spent the week at their Manhattan apartment.

Roque had previously filed for divorce from Lauer back in 2006, but later withdrew her filing. On Wednesday, her father, Henri Roque, spoke to the Daily Mail and indicated that his daughter has no plans to reconcile with -- or stand by -- Lauer.

"I have no words for her husband. What he has done is bad," Henri said. "She is not going to stay with him and work it out. They are not together trying to work it out."

"She is feeling shocked and she is now having sorrow for her children," he continued. "Me too. Everybody is feeling quite sad. There are also the kids, I don’t know what she’s doing or who they are going to stay with."

Annette and Matt share son Jack, 16, daughter Romy, 14, and son Thijs, 11.
