Matt James received a Valentine's Day makeover with a little assistance from his girlfriend Rachael Kirkconnell.

The former Bachelor star, 31, delighted fans by sharing a recent TikTok video of Kirkconnell, 27, shaving off his overgrown beard. In the clip, Kirkconnell, who met James as a contestant on his season ofThe Bachelor in 2020, playfully holds up a razor to her boyfriend's face as he captures the moment on video with his phone.

"This is my real Valentine's Day gift," Kirkconnell tells James, adding with a laugh, "Oh my gosh, I don't even know where your face is."

As Kirkconnell continues to groom her boyfriend's beard, she giggles at the falling hair, jokingly suggesting they have enough to use as dishwashing scrubbers. "This doesn't hurt, does it?" she asks him on camera, accompanied by the playful tune of "Murder on the Dancefloor" in the background. "I'm going to cry, I missed your face," she adds sentimentally.

Throughout the shaving process, Kirkconnell also teases James with different beard trimmings. At one point in the video, she pauses after only shaving one side of James' beard. But as Kirkconnell meticulously chips away at her boyfriend's beard, she reveals one thing she wants him to keep – a mustache.

"Now your beard hair won't get all over the shower anymore," Kirkconnell tells James after he's fully shaved. "That was you that got hair in the shower," James replies.

Kirkconnell adds, "I don't have short, curly hair. Ew, I think one got in my mouth."

At the end of the video, James proudly shows off his new look in the mirror, sporting a stylish mustache. "Yay, stache season," Kirkconnell exclaims, clapping. "Do you miss the beard?" James asks.

"Do I miss it?" Kirkconnell responds, raising her eyebrows. "No."

In April 2023, James spoke to PEOPLE about breaking barriers in men's wellness alongside the grooming brand Every Man Jack, a men's personal care brand. In the interview, he shared his skincare secrets, including how he developed a self-care routine.

"I was staying with my roommate at the time, Tyler [Cameron]. He's always been on top of his grooming and personal care. That was my first introduction," he told PEOPLE.

James wholeheartedly stands by the brand's sustainable efforts and carefully thought-out ingredients, most of them vegan. "The fact that they're conscious about using the materials that they use is important to me, and I think important to a lot of people."

Plus, James added, "I'm constantly looking for things to simplify my life, and that's what Every Man Jack has been [for me]."

It's not just about him, though. The athlete and author also wants to break down stigmas relating to men's wellness.

"Just because someone who doesn't look like you is doing it, doesn't mean that it's not beneficial for you," he shared. "Be open-minded. It helps when you put it out there for other people to see."
