Matt Damon furious after Jimmy Kimmel announces he is taking the summer off

On Thursday’s Jimmy Kimmel Live!, Kimmel announced that he will be taking the rest of the summer off. Following a two week hiatus, guest hosts will fill in until he returns. “I’m taking the summer off to spend even more time with my family,” said Kimmel. “I’ve been doing this job for almost 18 years, I’ve done 3,130 shows and there’s nothing wrong - my families healthy, I’m healthy, I just need a couple of months off.” The news came as quite a shock to one celebrity in particular, Matt Damon. Since 2005, there has been a recurring joke that Matt Damon is waiting backstage to come on the show but can’t because they always run out of time. In fact, Jimmy ends every show by apologizing to Damon. Damon, wearing a bathrobe and sipping what appears to be some sort of whiskey, entered from a room behind Kimmel during the vacation announcement. He was upset because he is still waiting to be a guest. The comedy bit ended as Kimmel’s wife, Molly McNearney was seen sneaking out of Damon’s room. When Kimmel confronted Damon over why his wife was in the room, Damon knowingly replied, “Why do you think she was in the room?”

JIMMY KIMMEL: I'm taking the summer off, to spend even more time with my family. I've been doing this job for almost 18 years. I've done 3,130 shows.

And there's nothing wrong. My family's healthy. I'm healthy. I just need a couple of months off.

NARRATOR: On Thursdays "Jimmy Kimmel Live," Jimmy announced that guest hosts will be filling in, while he takes a summer vacation with his family. And the news came as quite a shock to one Hollywood A-lister, in particular.

MATT DAMON: What does that mean, off?

JIMMY KIMMEL: It means off. It means not on. It means I won't be here.

MATT DAMON: What am I going to do?

JIMMY KIMMEL: What do you mean, what are you going to do?

MATT DAMON: Well, I mean, I haven't been on. I mean, I've been back here three months, waiting to get on.

JIMMY KIMMEL: You have?

MATT DAMON: Yeah.

NARRATOR: Since 2005, there has been a recurring joke that Matt Damon is waiting backstage to come on the show. And from that point on, Jimmy has ended every show apologizing to Damon for running out of time.

JIMMY KIMMEL: Matt Damon apologies, we ran out of time. Matt Damon apologies, we ran out of time. Apologies to Matt Damon, ran out of time. Apologies to Matt Damon, we ran out of time.

NARRATOR: For 15 years, Matt has tried various hilarious methods to sneak on as a guest, including pretending to be other guests, like Dr. Phil, or six-time Super Bowl champion, Tom Brady. One time, he managed to host the show. But he's never officially been a guest. And based on how this most recent appearance ended, he may have to wait even longer.

JIMMY KIMMEL: Hey, what is my-- that's my wife. Why is my wife in the room?

MATT DAMON: I mean, why-- why do you think she's in the room?

JIMMY KIMMEL: You son of a [BLEEP].
