Matt Bomer may have a Golden Globe but his most important achievement is being the father of his three kids: Kit, Walker and Henry.

The White Collar star married his husband Simon Halls in 2011 with their "nearest and dearest" in attendance, but the nuptials were just the cherry on top of their family of five. The couple had already welcomed their oldest son Kit in 2005 and twins Henry and Walker in 2008.

Bomer may be comfortable on the big and small screens alike, but he’d prefer to keep his children out of Hollywood for the time being. “I don’t want anybody out onstage any time soon,” he told PEOPLE in 2015. “I want them to have a nice, normal childhood.”

Still, there are rare moments when Bomer shares the limelight with his family. In 2012, he shouted them out while receiving the New Generation Arts and Activism Award at the Steve Chase Humanitarian Awards.

"I'd really especially like to thank my beautiful family: Simon, Kit, Walker, Henry," he said onstage. "Thank you for teaching me what unconditional love is. You will always be my proudest accomplishment."

Though it can be a challenge to balance parenthood with his successful acting career, the American Horror Story star wouldn’t trade it for anything.

I love [being a dad],” Bomer told PEOPLE in 2014. “It’s the most profound gift and the most daunting challenge at times.”

Bomer and Halls welcomed their first child, son Kit, in 2005. Ten years later, the actor's husband opened up about Kit’s childhood.

"[We go] to art museums [and read] art books," Halls told PEOPLE in 2015. "We've got a lot of photography books and art books."

When it was time for Kit to go to school, the pair also made thoughtful decisions to help him find his own identity and beliefs. "They go to an Episcopal school, but they're in school with Muslim kids, with Jewish kids," Bomer explained to GQ in 2023. "We gave them that experience and then let them find their own way from there."

Letting his son live freely is important to Bomer, and it’s something his own parents instilled in him. “When I was 8 years old, I asked my parents to get me headshots,” he told PEOPLE in 2015. “They were like, ‘What are you talking about?! Go outside and play!’ I’m so glad they did ... I had a normal childhood where I was able to cultivate my own creativity.”

Bomer's love and support have apparently made an impact on Kit's communication skills. In an interview on RuPaul’s talk show, the Magic Mike star recalled when then-14-year-old Kit came out as straight. “He said, ‘I love and respect that you guys are who you are. I’m straight, that’s how I identify,’ ” Bomer recalled in 2019. “And it was a big, nice, sweet moment.”

Now that Kit is older, he has attended events with Bomer and Halls. In 2018, the teen joined his dads at the 2018 Tony Awards in New York City, and The Boys in the Band star was so excited to have him there. “Best date ever! (Sorry Simon!),” Bomer captioned a now-deleted post on Instagram. “Thank you @thetonyawards for a perfect night as always- and for such a great memory.”

Kit also got to join his father at a luncheon before the event. When sharing photos of the special meal, Bomer wrote, “Pre @thetonyawards lunch with this amazing guy. Love you Kit!”

The activist and his eldest son also share a love of football, and they can often be seen attending San Francisco 49ers games together in matching jerseys.

“Thank you @49ers for an unforgettable game, and lifelong memory. See you at the Super Bowl!” Bomer wrote alongside a gallery of photos and videos following the 2024 NFC Championship game, which the team won.

Bomer and Halls completed their family in 2008 with the birth of their twins, Walker and Henry. When the boys were still young, the actor gave fans some insight into their personalities.

"They're up and at 'em at 6 in the morning and running around, and we're chasing them around," Bomer told PEOPLE. He said the twins especially enjoyed doing "outdoor, active things" and that they shared a “very kinetic household.”

The Critics' Choice Award winner has said he relies on his family to ground him in the midst of the mayhem of Hollywood.

“I need a summer with the family,” he told PEOPLE in 2014 — something he was going to get to enjoy while filming White Collar in New York. “One of our twins has lost both of his front teeth. I was so happy yet so sad because it totally changes the way he looks! He’s so cute right now because he’s got this little empty space there. It’s really fun.”

Walker and Henry have made only a few public appearances, including when the whole family attended the "Team Nanci" 15th Annual LA County Walk To Defeat ALS in 2017 and the 2019 Tony Awards.

Much like his approach to parenting his firstborn, Bomer’s top priority with his twins was providing an open and safe household.

“I just want to be hopefully somebody who helps shape these souls without changing how they came into the world,” he told PEOPLE. “To just give them the structure they need to thrive in the world but at the same time let their own personalities shine through.”

Years later, Bomer shared about parenting his kids as they became teenagers. “I think it’s a joy to hear about their lives and what’s going on with them and be a part of a family,” he told Forbes in 2023. “I think that’s an amazing, miraculous thing and I love our boys very much.”
