Matrix 4 , Starring Keanu Reeves and Carrie-Anne Moss, Announced

A fourth film in The Matrix franchise is happening, Variety reports. Lana Wachowski will write and direct the film, and Keanu Reeves and Carrie-Anne Moss will reprise their roles as Neo and Trinity. Warner Bros. Pictures and Village Roadshow Pictures will produce and distribute the movie.

“Many of the ideas Lilly and I explored 20 years ago about our reality are even more relevant now,” Wachowski said (via Variety). “I’m very happy to have these characters back in my life and grateful for another chance to work with my brilliant friends.”

“We could not be more excited to be re-entering The Matrix with Lana,” Warner Bros. Picture Group chairman Toby Emmerich said to Variety. “Lana is a true visionary—a singular and original creative filmmaker—and we are thrilled that she is writing, directing and producing this new chapter in The Matrix universe.”

The new film follows The Matrix (1999), The Matrix Reloaded (2003), and The Matrix Revolutions (2003). Plot details are currently unknown, and it’s unclear if the character Morpheus (played by Laurence Fishburne) will appear in the new film. Charli XCX and Troye Sivan portrayed Neo and Trinity in the artwork and video for their new single “1999.”
