The Matrix 4 has recruited Frozen 2 and Mindhunter star Jonathan Groff to join the upcoming sequel.

Groff, who voices Kristoff in the Disney animation and plays Agent Holden Ford on Netflix's Mindhunter, is the latest cast member to sign up for the new Matrix film (via Collider), which will see Keanu Reeves and Carrie-Anne Moss reprise their iconic roles as Neo and Trinity respectively.

They'll also be joined by Aquaman villain Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, with unconfirmed reports suggesting that he could be playing a young Morpheus.

Jada Pinkett Smith will also be back as Niobe, while Jessica Henwick and Neil Patrick Harris will play new characters in the franchise.

Lana Wachowski is on board to write and direct a fourth Matrix movie. She's currently adapting concepts she developed with sister Lilly Wachowski for a new screenplay, collaborating with The Lazarus Project author Aleksandar Hemon and writer David Mitchell.

"Many of the ideas Lilly and I explored 20 years ago about our reality are even more relevant now," Lana previously told Variety.

"I'm very happy to have these characters back in my life and grateful for another chance to work with my brilliant friends."

Previously, Keanu Reeves insisted he would only return to the franchise if the Wachowskis were involved.
