With every franchise getting a reboot or a sequel these days, we probably should have seen this coming, but the internet exploded earlier today at the news that Matrix 4 was officially happening.
Returning Cast And Crew
On top of the movie news, fans were excited to hear that Keanu Reeves, Carrie-Anne Moss, and director Lana Wachowski would also be returning. David Mitchell and Aleksandar Hemon have been tapped to write the script.
No word yet on whether or not Laurence Fishburne would be in the sequel as Morpheus, but c'mon. Returning to the Matrix without Morpheus?
Back To Fighting The Machines
Considering the career resurgence that Reeves has been enjoying lately with the John Wick franchise, it makes sense to resurrect The Matrix as well.
Wachowski released a statement expressing her excitement about returning to this iconic world.
"Many of the ideas Lilly and I explored 20 years ago about our reality are even more relevant now. I’m very happy to have these characters back in my life and grateful for another chance to work with my brilliant friends."
At this point in time, Warner Brothers expects to begin production in early 2020.
