‘Matefinder’ Werewolf Movie Adaptation in the Works (EXCLUSIVE)

MJW Media has acquired the movie rights to the paranormal-urban fantasy book franchise “Matefinder,” Variety has learned exclusively.

Mike Witherill, whose credits include “John Wick” and “Drinking Buddies,” will produce, with LeAnn Goff serving as executive producer.

The first book in the series — written by Leia Stone — was published in 2014 and is set in a world where the werewolf race is dying out and desperately seeks their mates to bear young. The story follows an alpha werewolf, who decides to save a dying woman named Aurora by changing her into a werewolf. She then struggles with her past as a domestic abuse survivor, and the new violent and dominating lifestyle of a werewolf.

The next two volumes,”Devi” and “Balance,” explore the evolving relationship between Aurora and the other werewolves, with Aurora hidden deep in the mountains.

MJW Films also produced “Drinking Buddies,” starring Olivia Wilde, Jake Johnson, Anna Kendrick, and Ron Livingston; and “Cardboard Boxers,” starring Thomas Haden Church, Terrence Howard and Boyd Holbrook.
