A Massachusetts couple was found dead at their home in what authorities are investigating as a possible murder-suicide.

Plymouth County District Attorney Tim Cruz said Kingston Police were called to an Elm Street home around 11:15 a.m. Sunday after a family member reported finding two people dead, according to comments made in a press conference streamed by WCVB.

Police arrived to find a 45-year-old male dead outside the home from an apparent fatal gunshot wound. A 45-year-old female, who WCVB has identified as the man’s wife, was found dead inside the kitchen with a fatal gunshot wound.

Authorities have not released any details on who they believe may have pulled the trigger, but described the shootings in a statement Sunday as a “domestic incident resulting in a murder/suicide.”

“Preliminary investigators have found this was not a random act of violence. There is no threat to the public as we sit here now,” Cruz said, calling it an “active and ongoing scene.”

He declined to release the identities of the deceased, citing the need to notify their families.

Neighbors, who said the couple were the parents of a young daughter, said they were surprised to learn about the violence.

“It’s just a very quiet neighborhood and you know, it’s just shocking to hear that something like this might have happened, and so sad,” neighbor Karen Baynes told WFXT.

Another neighbor, Shelly Phillips, told WBTS that she first met the male occupant of the house in January and never suspected anything was wrong in the months leading up to the deadly shootings.

“He was so proud of his home and his family and it just seems so out of character,” she said.
