Mason Rudolph, Diontae Johnson pass on Mitch Trubisky’s invite

New Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Mitch Trubisky invited his skill players and fellow quarterbacks to his home in Florida recently to workout and just get to know each other. At the time we said it was awkward to think fellow quarterback Mason Rudolph might attend. Rudolph and Trubisky are going to be going head-to-head for the starting quarterback job this season.

According to multiple reports, including Steelers writer Josh Rowntree, social media videos from the gathering showed Rudolph to be absent. This was probably for the best as these guys need to be teammates but for Rudolph, the addition of Trubisky cannot be viewed as anything positive for him.

Rudolph has spent the last three seasons preparing for the moment he could take over the job with this team and as soon as Ben Roethlisberger retires, the team gives him a huge vote of no confidence by signing Trubisky as a free agent.

Wide receiver Diontae Johnson also passed on the invitation, opting to train elsewhere with New England Patriots quarterback Mac Jones. Sort of odd but Johnson is eyeing a big contract extension this offseason so a bit of obstinance should be expected, I suppose.
