The Masked Singer season 3's best performances

Guessing the concealed celebrities' identities on The Masked Singer is only half the fun of the hit Fox show. After all, it is still technically a singing competition, and while not every performer is a natural singer, each episode features some pretty impressive performances from professional and non-trained singers alike. Here, EW breaks down all of the best performances from each episode of season 3 of The Masked Singer. Be sure to check back, because we will be updating this gallery throughout the season.
Kangaroo singing "Dancing on My Own" by Robyn — week 1
Kangaroo proved that a performance doesn’t have to be high energy in order to impress. In her first performance on the show, the fancy marsupial pared things down for this slow song, opting out of dancers and effects. Instead, she mournfully crooned facing a set of mirrors. This coupled with the vocals, which were powerful and full of soul, really brought out the emotion in an otherwise more upbeat evening, helping the Kangaroo to stand out in a crowded field in the process.
Miss Monster singing "Fancy" by Bobbie Gentry — week 2
Although she would ultimately go home in episode 3, Miss Monster (or should we say, Chaka Khan?) impressed the audience and the panel alike with her performance of “Fancy.” Unlike with some of her other more muted performances, she let her full vocal range shine here, hitting the highest of high and lowest of low notes. And although her movements were rather limited, likely due to the bulky costume, the performance was aided by a group of backup dancers and props, which all added to its lively appeal.
Turtle singing "There's Nothing Holdin' Me Back" by Shawn Mendes — week 3
Turtle brought the house down with his rendition of Mendes’ song. His impressive vocals were on full display, and were a great match for the pop song. His performance was amplified by some great dance moves, too, which panelist Nicole Scherzinger made note of in her review. By the end, it was clear to everyone watching that the Turtle absolutely earned his spot in the Super 9.
Kitty singing "Dangerous Woman" by Ariana Grande — week 4
This episode saw plenty of great performances, from Taco’s best Elvis impersonation to Frog’s upbeat rendition of “U Can’t Touch This,” but it was Kitty who shined the brightest. Her beautiful vocals were the most impressive of the night, and her dancing and background performers were appropriately sultry, helping her performance stand out among the competition.
Kitty singing "Mercy" by Brett Young — week 5
For the second week in a row, Kitty brought the house down with her emotional rendition of Young’s song. Like Kangaroo in the first episode, Kitty proved that a performance can be pared down and still pack a punch. It’s still early, but Kitty has already proven that she’s here to compete.
Frog singing "You Dropped a Bomb on Me" by The Gap Band — week 6
Make no mistake: The Frog has brought it week after week, but in his third performance, he stole the show. His performance had props, his trademark smooth dance moves, and crowd engagement. And, to top it off, his choice of song allowed him to showcase a part of his vocal range that he hadn't previously. With this rendition of "You Dropped a Bomb on Me," Frog easily grooved his way into the Super 9.
Night Angel singing "You Give Love a Bad Name" by Bon Jovi — week 7
Night Angel got Group C started off on the right foot with her rousing rendition of the Bon Jovi classic. She perfectly adapted her lower vocal range to the song, giving love's "bad name" extra oomph. Her slightly raspy vocals were also a perfect pairing with the rock anthem. The lights, effects, and energy of this performance had all the judges — and the audience — on their feet. It was a great way to start off the new group of singers.
Astronaut singing "Signed, Sealed, Delivered" by Stevie Wonder — week 8
This week was really tough, with several performances (lookin' at you, Night Angel and Rhino!) vying for our favorite of the week. Astronaut ultimately outshone the rest though, and his energetic performance kicked off episode 8 and set the tone for the rest of the night. It was fun all around, from the backup dancers emerging from little pods to Astronaut getting down to the beat with said dancers in spite of his suit, which does not look easy to move in. But it was his vocal range that impressed the most this week: He hit all those high notes, and brought it from start to finish.
Night Angel singing "Shout!" by The Isley Brothers — week 9
Talk about starting things off on a high note. Night Angel once again kicked off the show, this time with her rousing rendition of The Isley Brothers hit "Shout!" It was appropriately energetic and paid homage to the beloved classic, and yet she still managed to make the song her own. And those high notes? In the words of panelist Jenny McCarthy-Wahlberg, "You can sing, girlfriend!"
Turtle singing "Higher Love" by Steve Winwood — week 10
From Night Angel's Andra Day cover, to Kitty's take on Celine Dion, to Astronaut Rick-rolling, and Frog making us "Jump," this episode was the best yet. No surprise there — this was the two-hour Super 9 special, in which all of the remaining contestants performed. All of the aforementioned performances were special in their own ways, but we chose Turtle this week for adding some cool choreography to his sweet, sweet vocals. And that falsetto? Turtle, we've missed you!
Night Angel singing "Man! I Feel Like a Woman" by Shania Twain — week 11
It came down to Turtle and Night Angel once again this week, and while we almost couldn't resist Turtle's goosebump-inducing rendition of James Bay's "Let It Go," Night Angel gets the slight edge for pushing herself. The purple-winged contestant has tried her hand at several different genres of music so far on the show, and now she can add country to that list. Her energy was high and she still gave her trademark spin to the classic. Plus, who doesn't like jamming out to this song?!
Kitty singing "Unstoppable" by Sia in the Smackdown — week 12
EW went against the grain a bit for this week's pick. Although Frog prevailed over Kitty in the first round, sending the bedazzled feline to the Smackdown, she pulled herself up by the straps of her perfectly sequined boots. The Smackdowns don't come with backup dancers and intricate set pieces like the regular performances, but in Kitty's case, she didn't need it. The song choice was perfect, and Kitty nailed it. Her rendition of "Unstoppable" featured hands down the best vocals of the night. Luckily, the panel agreed, and sent her on to the Super Six.
Everyone singing everything — week 13
This week was the best episode of the season to date. Every single contestant stepped up their game and gave some of their absolute best performances yet. Plus, there was a little bit of everything, with several different genres of music being represented. Kitty gave us sultry showtunes with Marilyn Monroe's "Diamonds Are a Girl's Best Friend," Rhino nailed his country crooning with Thomas Rhett's "Die a Happy Man," Turtle brought the vocals AND great choreography to Alessia Cara & ZED's "Stay," Night Angel slayed Alannah Myles' "Black Velvet," and Frog brought the house down with Imagine Dragons' "Whatever It Takes." Even poor Astronaut, who was sent packing too early, gave his all to One Direction's "Story of My Life." There was so much variety this week, and everyone sounded as good or better than they ever have, that it just didn't seem right to pick just one. So we didn't.
Turtle singing "Fix You" by Coldplay — week 14
Everyone's favorite shell of a guy has consistently delivered good performances, but this week he completely blew us away. EW's staff had goosebumps throughout his soulful take on the Coldplay song, which was complemented by unique set design and choreography from the backup dancers. Turtle nailed the melody, and his vocals were perfect to boot. It was one of his best outings on the show to date, and with it, he easily secured his place in the semifinals.
Frog singing "Hip Hop Hooray" by Naughty By Nature — week 15
"If it ain't broke, don't fix it" seems to be Frog's modus operandi on The Masked Singer this season. He knows what he's good at and sticks to it, and it's impossible not to enjoy. His performances have an infectious energy, and his rapping and dancing skills are seriously impressive. This performance of "Hip Hop Hooray" was no different, and he had everyone in the audience on their feet, dancing right along with him to the bop. It was the perfect way to close out the semi-finals.
Turtle singing "Before You Go" by Lewis Capaldi — week 16
Although Night Angel ultimately won season 3 with her performance of Tina Turner's "River Deep, Mountain High," Turtle just knocked it out of the park with his final performance. He saved perhaps his most powerful vocals to date for last, and every note was pitch perfect. It wasn't a high energy song, but every emotional beat of it came through perfectly, once again giving us major goosebumps. He didn't win the show, but he's the winner of our hearts, okay?!
