8:00 p.m. — “Previously on ‘The Masked Singer’!” In the Season 9 finale, Medusa won the Golden Mask trophy and removed her mask to reveal singer Bishop Briggs. Macaw (“American Idol” finalist David Archuleta) was the runner-up. But enough about last season — let’s get started with the first performance of Season 10!

8:05 p.m. — With no time to waste, Nick introduces Gazelle as the first singer of the night. In her clue package, Gazelle says, “Like a gazelle, I’ve always leapt head first into opportunities to be on stage. After seeing a Broadway show at six years old, I knew that I wanted to perform for a living. When I was just a teenager, I took a huge chance and performed in a national talent competition. But, I crashed and burned. It was super bad. That made me almost swear off singing for good, but music was always my first love. Now, I’m ready to prove to myself that I can get up there again and give it my all. There’s so much beauty in conquering your fears — and it really helps if you can face them behind a gorgeous Gazelle mask.” Visual clues in her package included a sign that reads “Auditions Today!,” a sign that says “Hello Doll!” with Gazelle’s photo on it, cheerleading pom poms, a judge in a Hawaiian shirt and three bulldogs.

8:10 p.m. — Gazelle is singing “Uninvited” by Alanis Morissette. What a haunting, dramatic opener! This hoofed diva has a sultry, powerful voice with range to spare. It’s also quite clear she’s no stranger to performing on stage. Her voice sounds familiar, but I can’t pinpoint it myself. Let’s see if the clues and the panelist guesses help. To help shed light on Gazelle’s identity, “Snake Oil” host David Spade walks out with a vinyl album that says “Movie Soundtrack” on it. To this, Gazelle reveals, “Not only do I act in movies, I also sing in them.” This leads the panelists to guess Camila Mendes (Jenny), Lucy Hale (Robin) and Vanessa Hudgens (Nicole).

8:15 p.m. — The second creature to perform is Diver. In his clue package Diver reveals, “Diving into a completely different persona feels like a nice escape. I’ve been everyone’s favorite person to hate and, to be honest, I get it. I’m the first to admit I’ve made mistakes, but honestly, I did it for love. It hurts when I get judged by people who’ve never even met me and I become a scapegoat for every bad dude they’ve ever known. But I’m hoping all that will melt away when I hit the stage. Getting to share my voice without the preconceived notion of who I am is really what I need right now. So tonight, I’m ready to get my head in the game because I’m not ready to go back to the real world just yet.” Visual clues in his package included “The Masked Singer Post” newspaper reading, “Extra! Extra! Read All About It!”, an hour glass, a knight’s armor with lions engraved on it, a compass pointed towards the Midwest (MW) and I may have seen a field in the distance with a capital “H” on it (possibly football or baseball).

8:20 p.m. — Diver is singing “Any Way You Want It” by Journey. He has a much better voice than I was expecting after seeing zero musical clues in his intro. No, he’s not Steve Perry, but he can carry a tune. He’s got a pretty high register, but lacks the stamina I would expect from a professional vocalist. Most importantly, he’s selling this performance by moving around the stage with a bit of humor. The men in black bring out a clue — a magazine cover that says “Masked money money money,” “Diver opens another business” and “11 million eyes on Diver.” To this, Diver says, “The more people talk about my business, the more I want them out of it.” This leads the panelists to guess Adam Levine (Nicole), Tom Sandoval (Ken) and Scott Disick (Jenny).

8:25 p.m. — The third contender tonight is S’more. In his clue package he says, “Gather round campers for the tale of the swashbuckling S’more. Just like this many-layered dessert forged in fire, my life has been all about blazing my own trail. I started out on a rocket to fame, a journey from obscurity, to major heartthrob status in a matter of weeks. Millions cheered me on, step by step, as I became a household name. I traveled the lands near and far making headlines with fellow adventurers and idols. It was bliss! And when I finished with my travels I hung up my cape. I thought it was the end of the road, but I was still hungry for a new journey. So that’s why I’m here to conquer the ‘Masked Singer’ stage. This S’more’s gonna make you melt.” Visual clues in his package included a space rocket, a tip jar made of ice, a pirate ship, “Masked Singer Soda” cans, a Chicago deep dish pizza and a Christmas tree with an angel on top.

8:30 p.m. — S’More is singing “Slow Hands” by Niall Horan. He’s clearly an experienced vocalist with a smooth, impressive tone. For the first time tonight, I think I may actually know who this is based on the clues and the voice — is it Justin Guarini? To me his clue package screamed “American Idol,” there were multiple Broadway hints (Chicago, the cape — he was in “Chicago” and wore a cape in “Once Upon a One More Time”) and those soda cans could be in reference to his Dr. Pepper commercials. Am I right or am I right? The men in black bring out a film reel that says “Starring S’more,” to which he says, “As you can tell, I’m very talented on and off stage.” This leads the panelists to guess Joey McIntyre (Nicole), Justin Guarini (Jenny — she’s on the same page as me!) and Kevin Richardson (Robin).

8:35 p.m. — The fourth performer tonight is Rubber Ducky. In his clue package he says, “Hey there, the name’s Rubber Ducky. I’m ready to splash on the stage. Here’s how my story goes: Movies and TV shows, I’m used to being the rage. Oh yeah, I started out pretty humble. Came up from nothing to fame. Nice to see you all. Tried stand-up comedy, learned it wasn’t for me, but now I’m a household name. I didn’t say that I made my way solitarily. Great crowd tonight! Let’s get it. Oh, no, no, behind everything I do is my family. You know it. So now that you see, heeere, we go. A little more about me. Bring it home, gentlemen, come on! I’ll quack my way to the finale. Hey, rubba dub dub.” None of that was a typo, I promise. It was just this wacky creature’s way of speaking. Visual clues included a VHS tape that said “The Horror! 3-4”, a photo of Leonardo DiCaprio and a golden turtle. He said all this while waddling around a mansion — I’m not sure if that’s a clue or not.

8:40 p.m. — Rubber Ducky is singing “Come on Eileen” by Dexys Midnight Runners. His mobility is limited because he literally has a bathtub strapped to him, but he’s not a bad singer. It’s definitely entertaining! Despite the lack of movement, Rubber Ducky still managed to put on a show for us. The men in black bring out a clue — an autographed photo of a family of Rubber Duckies. I see five signatures — it looks like three large ducks and three small ones. Rubber Ducky says, “My family is full of stars, check out the head shot.” This leads the panelists to guess David Arquette (Robin), one of the Wayans brothers (Jenny) and Anthony Anderson (Ken).

8:45 p.m. — The fifth and final contender tonight is Cow. In her clue package she says, “Cows like me don’t often make it out of their pen. When I was young I felt destined to stay home and live out a simple life in black and white, but I always knew I wanted to stand out. I had big dreams of being a big star. But I used to have a little trouble handling my emotions, until I discovered I could write, and leave whatever I was feeling on the page. After that, everything changed. The gift eventually led me to #1. I won Grammys, traveled the world, I made hit after hit after hit. I guess you could say I was kind of my own cash cow. I was always meant to live my life in color and I’m bringing that same energy to the stage because you’re about to see there’s no one like me.” Visual clues included a coffee packet that says “Step 1: Add Coffee, Step 2: Add Sugar,” July 4 on a calendar, a cookbook called “Classic Culinary Cuisine for Cows,” a “Classic Cow Cake” recipe, a Las Vegas sign and a cake mixer (along with various baking utensils).

8:50 p.m. — Cow is singing “Bones” by Imagine Dragons. Jenny immediately notes, “She’s got a really low voice or she’s a man.” As the song continues, Nicole confirms, “I think it’s a guy!” One thing’s for certain, this cow can sing. Cow has the most powerful, fluid voice of the night and may just be the first front-runner of Season 10. The men in black pull out a clue — a Blockbuster Movie ticket. Cow says, “One of the better things known about me all started with a movie.” This leads the panelists to guess Shawn Stockman (Jenny), Usher (Jenny) and Leslie Odom Jr. (Nicole).

8:55 p.m. — The votes have been counted and now one mystery singer is about to be eliminated from the competition. Nick builds up the suspense before revealing Rubber Ducky is about to unmask. Everyone else is safe for another week! Next week is “NFL Night.”

9:02 p.m. — Before Rubber Ducky reveals himself the panel gives their final guesses: Marlon Wayans (Jenny), David Arquette (Robin), Anthony Anderson (Ken) and Jaleel White (Nicole). At last, it’s time for Rubber Ducky to pull off that mask and show us who he really is. Sure enough, it’s Emmy-nominated actor Anthony Anderson! Ken was right! What a way to set the tone for Season 10, Ken! That’s a wrap for tonight — we’ll be back next week for “NFL Night.”
