‘The Masked Singer’ Medusa guesses: Bishop Briggs, Lorde, Ellie Goulding … ?

The four panelists on “The Masked Singer” are having a hard time narrowing down the identity of the secret celebrity hiding inside the Medusa costume. The snake-haired villainess performed a pitch-perfect rendition of “Happier Than Ever” during the season premiere and left the judges “speechless.” She returned in Episode 2 with “Dancing Queen” and won the crown yet again. Medusa then performed “New York, New York” in Episode 3, but lost the vote to California Roll, however she was saved by the “Ding Dong Keep It On” Bell and won the comeback competition. She then advanced from the quarter-finals and the semi-finals, which means she will appear in the season finale. Do YOU know who she is? Read on for the judges’ “The Masked Singer” Medusa guesses.

ROUND 1 GUESSES

When the contestant teased on the big stage that “success comes in the grayest of places,” Jenny McCarthy took that to be a clue to the blockbuster film “Fifty Shades of Grey.” She put two and two together and surmised that Medusa might be Ellie Goulding, as she sang the movie’s song “Love Me Like You Do.” “I think I’m on to something, you guys,” Jenny stated proudly.

Ken Jeong heard “dancer in the dark” in the clue package and thought of his personal “muse,” Bjork, whom he’s guessed many times before. He then switched his guess to Princess Meghan Markle. As the audience groaned in disapproval, Ken reminded people that Medusa grew up far from the spotlight and that there was a knighted chess piece, referring to royalty.

The image of Buckingham Palace made Nicole Scherzinger think of some English singers, including Jessie J, Charli XCX and Dua Lipa. However, she ultimately settled on New Zealand’s Lorde because of Medusa’s tone. “It could definitely be Lorde,” co-judge Robin Thicke noted approvingly.

ROUND 2 GUESSES

“The Bachelor” alum Nick Viall appeared on stage to deliver a clue of a first-class ticket with 1996. “Wanna know where I’m from? Take a little look closer,” she teased. That made Nicole think of Swedish singer Tove Lo, who sang “Fun” with Chris Martin, a person from her clues video. Nicole then reminded people of her guess of Lorde from last week.

Robin saw the Martin photo and went in another direction, name-dropping Apple Martin, the 18-year-old daughter of Chris Martin and Gwyneth Paltrow. That could also explain the Super Bowl clue, since she was in the audience when Coldplay performed the Halftime show.

But Ken wasn’t having it, instead predicting actress Dakota Johnson as the person inside the Medusa suit. Why? Because she is currently dating Chris Martin, and he is her “international boyfriend.” The audience booed, but at least it was better than his first guess of Meghan Markle, right?

ROUND 3 GUESSES

Medusa was told her rendition of “New York, New York” was “unbeatable” by Jenny, who added, “We’re all so speechless right now. If you don’t have shelves of Grammys on your wall we will all be surprised.” Nicole, meanwhile, called it “ethereal.”

Luann de Lesseps from “The Real Housewives of New York” brought out a clue of a little bridge, to which Medusa noted, “Sometimes you have to build a bridge to get over it. Hopefully it will put you in the right state of mind.”

This week, the panelists thought Medusa could be Lorde (Nicole), Florence Welch (Nicole), Shirley Manson (Nicole), Susan Boyle (Ken) or Kesha (Robin). Hmm … so many names!

QUARTER-FINALS GUESSES

After belting out “Someone Like You” in the quarter-finals, the sleuths jumped up onto their desks in a wild standing ovation. “You are the one to beat … you’re a revelation” declared Nicole. Host Nick Cannon then revealed a “mom” clue which totally messed with everybody’s pre-conceived notions.

Robin went back to his Ellie Goulding guess but readily admitted, “This is an enigma. You are a mystery of the highest order.” He previously thought Medusa could be Kesha, but she’s not a mother.

Nicole doubled-down on Lorde because of her vocals, but noted how she “doesn’t have a child.” She then name-checked Imogen Heap, Regina Spektor, Bishop Briggs and Amy Lee as possibilities. Jenny followed that up with Halsey and Ashlee Simpson, but Nicole didn’t like either of them.

SEMI-FINALS GUESSES

Once again, the panelists seemed to be in a state of confusion when Medusa belted out “Take Me To Church” in the semi-finals. They did, however, throw out two possible new names: Grimes and Dido.

“Wow! I have two words: holy moly,” Jenny raved. “I’ve just gotta tell you, not only did you take us to church, you bursted our hearts wide open. Medusa, we freaking love you.”
