Mar. 28—BEMIDJI — The Mask and Rose Theater will host a staged reading of "Mary 4, Martha 3 — NO Footnotes" by Puposky playwright Cate Belleveau at 7 p.m. on Friday, April 5, at the Carnegie Library, 426 Bemidji Ave N.
The play invites listeners to hear the voices of the women who were part of American iconic writer Ernest Hemingway's life — his four wives Hadley, Pauline, Martha and Mary, his mother Grace, and his granddaughter Margot.
It features local actors Katie Carter, Cynthia Booth, Maggie Carlson, Polly Scotland and Cate Belleveau.
The reading will celebrate what would be Mary Welsh Hemingway's 116th birthday on April 5. Growing up in Bemidji and Walker, she would have spent hours in the Carnegie Library as a child and a young woman, a release said.
This event will not be a full theatrical production like the theater previously performed in Bemidji, Walker and New York City, added the release.
The theater requests a free-will offering from attendees to offset rental costs.
