Mary Lou Retton announces on 'DWTS' that she's been divorced since February

On Monday’s Dancing With the Stars, former Olympic gymnast Mary Lou Retton revealed that she has been divorced from Shannon Kelley since February.

“I went through a divorce. People don’t know this. It’s the first time I’ve said it publicly. After 27 years,” Retton told her partner, Sasha Farber. “The divorce was final in February, so it’s very new.”

Kelley, an assistant football coach at Houston Baptist University, and Retton share four daughters ranging in age from 16 to 23. After almost three decades with him, Retton felt the shock of such a life-changing event.

“It was hard,” she said. “I felt very alone. It’s something that really needed to happen for a long time. We still love one another, but we weren’t great together anymore. Thank God for my four girls. They loved me unconditionally.”

Retton, a five-time Olympic medalist, was voted off at the end of this week’s show. But it seems she’s just getting started with her new life.

“When I walked in here, I knew I was starting over, and I was scared,” Retton said. “But now, I know I’m starting over, but I’m excited.”

Farber reminded Retton, and America, of one more outcome from her divorce.

“You’re back on the market?” Farber said, igniting laughter from Retton. “That’s right, if you’re watching out there, this one is back on the market. Swipe right.”
