Mary Elizabeth Winstead and Ewan McGregor are a match in both love and work life!

The Scott Pilgrim Takes Off voice actress tells PEOPLE that she and her husband "love to work together" on screen projects.

"Sometimes, especially when you have kids, just to have the opportunity to get to be together and not be in separate places — the gratitude that comes with that elevates the experience even more, because you're just so grateful to get to be in the same place at the same time," says Winstead, 39, who shares 2-year-old son Laurie with McGregor, 52.

"And beyond that, we just love acting together," she adds. "I can't imagine a more fun partner to get to do that with, so it's great."

Winstead and McGregor met on the set of the FX series Fargo in late 2016, when they both joined the cast during season 3, playing each other's love interests. At the time, McGregor was still married to his now-ex-wife Eve Mavrakis and Winstead was married to her now-ex-husband Riley Stearns. After their respective marriages ended, the costars began dating.

The two welcomed their first child together in June 2021, after nearly four years together, and tied the knot the following April.

Now, Winstead and McGregor have teamed up together again on their upcoming Paramount+ series A Gentleman in Moscow, which the actress tells PEOPLE is "a beautiful show to get to work on together" with her husband. They are also part of the Stars Wars universe: Winstead is hot off of her role as Hera Syndulla in the Ahsoka series on Disney+, while McGregor headlined the show Obi-Wan Kenobi.

"We're very excited for that to come out eventually. And now we'll figure out what comes next one day at a time," Winstead says.

Winstead recently reprised her role of Ramona Flowers from 2010's Scott Pilgrim vs. the World for the new Netflix anime Scott Pilgrim Takes Off.

Asked by PEOPLE whether McGregor is a fan of the Scott Pilgrim world, Winstead says he has seen the show and even has a particular wardrobe item that honors his wife's free-spirited character.

"He has this shirt that he'll break out every now and then and just wear that always makes me smile and laugh, which has a photo of me as Ramona Flowers and it says, 'I'm in lesbians with her,' " she says.

In the film, Winstead's character is the main love interest of Michael Cera's titular Scott, who believes the "L-word" means "lesbians" and, near the end of the movie, tells Ramona, "I'm in lesbians with you."

Winstead adds of McGregor with a laugh, "Sometimes when we're out and about, he'll take off his sweater and that's the shirt he's wearing. It makes me so happy."

Scott Pilgrim Takes Off is now streaming on Netflix.
