Marvel’s Thunderbolts film has a new name, and no one knows what it means.

The film previously known as Thunderbolts is now called Thunderbolts* with an asterisk, as explained by Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige during Marvel’s CinemaCon presentation.

“Yes, you’ll notice the asterisk on Thunderbolts*,” he said, addressing fans in front of a screen bearing the film’s new logo. “That is the official title of Thunderbolts and we won’t talk more about that until after the movie comes out.”

The decision has left fans puzzled, but compelling theories are starting to pop up. Some suggest the Thunderbolts, a collection of Marvel villains first introduced in 1997 comic book The Incredible Hulk vol. 2, won’t be the true Thunderbolts, but pretenders to the throne.

Others say the asterisk suggests the Thunderbolts name is pending. In other words, the team may change their name at the end of the film. Perhaps they’ll even transition into bonafide heroes and form the new Avengers.

Whatever happens, just remember Thunderbolts is now called Thunderbolts*, and Kevin Feige isn’t elaborating further.

Don’t let the re-branding sway you, however. Sebastian Stan reveals “There’s a lot of good things” in Marvel’s Thunderbolts.
