GREEN BAY - Groundbreaking Marvel Studios star Alaqua Cox will be at the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay on April 19.

Cox, who is from the Menominee Nation and stars as the title character in the Disney+ and Hulu series “Echo,” will be part of a moderated discussion for a free event celebrating First Nations Education at UWGB.

Limited seats are available for the event from 6 to 7:30 p.m. in the Phoenix Rooms of the University Union. It will also be available virtually through Microsoft Teams. Guests must RSVP to attend either format.

The 27-year-old Cox has been heralded for bringing deaf and Indigenous representation to the Marvel Cinematic Universe as its first live-action Native American superhero. She was first cast as Maya Lopez, aka Echo, in the 2021 Disney+ series “Hawkeye.” She returned to the role for a five-episode “Echo” spinoff that debuted in January.

“I feel like a role model because I grew up not seeing myself represented on the screen — a deaf, Indigenous amputee,” Cox told the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel earlier this year. “Now, there’s more Indigenous and deaf actors."
