Marvel Studios is reportedly considering moving away from Jonathan Majors amid his ongoing case. According to Variety, Marvel’s studio executives have tossed around contingent plans involving Major’s Kang the Conqueror. In the event that he loses the trial, the outlet stated that Marvel could pivot their focus to Dr. Doom as the big bad for their Multiverse Saga.

During their annual retreat, they discussed the fact that Majors’ trial has left them in a bad position. And, considering the now-settled WGA strike, the studio wasn’t allowed to write Kang’s character out. To make matters worse, the final episode of Loki, which is set to air on Nov. 9, positions Jonathan’s character as the main villain of the upcoming films Kang Dynasty and Secret Wars. One source close to the ordeal said that, for the first time in a while, Marvel Studios was “f**ked.”

“Marvel is truly f**ked with the whole Kang angle,” one source said. “And they haven’t had an opportunity to rewrite until very recently [because of the WGA strike]. But I don’t see a path to how they move forward with him.”

Jonathan Majors’ future as the MCU’s next leading man was put in jeopardy after his arrest in March 2023. He was detained on misdemeanor charges, including two counts of assault in the third degree, attempted assault in the third degree, aggravated harassment in the second degree, and harassment in the second degree.

He was recently ordered to stand trial for his domestic abuse charges. Variety reported that Judge Michael Gaffey refused to dismiss the case, setting a start date for Nov. 29.

On Wednesday (Oct. 25), the actor appeared via Zoom at a scheduled hearing in Manhattan. His defense attorneys filed a motion to request that “contested evidence” remain sealed and unable to be viewed by the public due to the “high-profile” nature of the case.

Defense attorney Seth Zuckerman cautioned that “the disclosure of sensitive information will limit Mr. Majors’ right to a fair trial.” Judge Gaffey did not immediately decide and informed reporters they could submit papers in opposition by Nov. 6.
