Marvel has revealed the trailer for X-Men ’97, its upcoming revival of the classic X-Men: The Animated Series. Picking up where the original series left off 27 years ago, the new show will premiere March 20th, 2024 on Disney+.

The series is set immediately after the events of the classic animated series, which ran for 76 episodes from 1992 to 1997 (and is available to stream in full on Disney+). As the trailer below reveals, that means Professor Xavier is dead, and it’s up to a Cyclops-led X-Men team to carry on his dream for the next generation (which in the case of Jean Grey, appears to be coming rather soon). Or so it seems, until Xavier’s last will and testament is presented by an old frenemy.

As previously confirmed, many of your favorite childhood characters will be back for X-Men ’97, as will some of the voices behind them. This includes Rogue (Lenore Zann), Beast (George Buza), Wolverine (Cal Dodd), and Storm (Alison Sealy-Smith), while characters like Cyclops (Ray Chase), Jean Grey (Jennifer Hale), Gambit (AJ LoCascio), Jubilee (Alyson Court), and Magneto (Matthew Waterson) will be voiced by new actors.

Other characters confirmed to be back for the series include Bishop (now voiced by Isaac Robinson-Smith), Morph (newcomer JP Karliak), Nightcrawler (Adrian Hough), and the villainous Mister Sinister (Chris Britton). Newly added to the roster is Sunspot, a mutant more commonly connected to the New Mutants and X-Force, voiced by Giu Augustini. Also new is Dr. Valerie Cooper, who in the comics is a government liaison for mutant affairs, voiced by original Jean Grey actor Catherine Disher. And yes, one of the greatest theme songs of all time is also back.

Original X-Men writers Eric and Julia Lewald and director Larry Houston serve as consultants on the series, with Beau DeMayo serving as head writer and executive producer. Jake Castorena, Chase Conley, and Emi Yonemura directed the 10-episode first season. A Season 2 is reportedly already in development.
