Marvel has yet to officially announce the show’s cast, but in October 2020, Variety reported that Oscar Isaac was in talks to play the title role. Isaac would play Marc Spector, whose dissociative identity disorder manifests as different distinct personas. In one iteration of the character in Marvel Comics, Spector is also the embodiment of Khonshu, the Egyptian god of the moon, and Marvel Studios Kevin Feige has said the show will make use of Egyptian iconography. Diab’s filmmaking career also originated in Egypt.

“Moon Knight” is set to begin shooting in Hungary in March, and premiere on Disney Plus in 2022. The show is part of Marvel’s robust slate of series for the streamer, starting with “WandaVision” which premieres on Jan. 15.

Benson and Moorhead have worked for years within the indie horror circuit, starting with their 2013 feature debut “Resolution.” On the strength of that debut, they directed a segment in the 2014 found footage horror anthology film “V/H/S Viral.” In 2018’s “The Endless,” Benson and Moorhead reprised small roles they played in “Resolution” as members of a possible UFO cult. Most recently, they directed the horror feature “Synchronic,” starring Jamie Dornan and Marvel mainstay Anthony Mackie; it debuted at the 2019 Toronto International Film Festival, and opened in limited release last October.
