Martin Scorsese, Leonardo DiCaprio: 'Flawed Nature' Makes 'Goodfellas' (Exclusive Clip)

It's going on a quarter century since the release of Martin Scorsese’s Oscar-winning crime drama Goodfellas. The epic mob flick, starring Robert De Niro, Ray Liotta, and Joe Pesci, hit theaters Sept. 21, 1990, and became an instant classic.

In the above exclusive extra from the 25th anniversary edition of Goodfellas (out today on Blu-ray and Digital HD), Scorsese and frequent collaborator Leonardo DiCaprio discuss why the movie is so special. With a filmography that includes Raging Bull, Casino, The Departed, and Gangs of New York, Scorsese repeatedly, and artfully, brings the underworld alive on the big screen — as he does in 'fellas. But DiCaprio argues it’s more that “he’s always trying to grasp the humanity of these people, the flawed nature of these characters.”

Yes, the director even manages to humanize the temperamental — and funny— Tommy DeVito (Pesci) and his murderous tendencies.
