Martin Scorsese, Greta Gerwig, Emerald Fennell to Deliver Screen Talks at BFI London Film Festival

Martin Scorsese, Greta Gerwig and Emerald Fennell are among the filmmakers delivering screen talks at this year’s BFI London Film Festival, alongside Andrew Haigh, Lulu Wang and Kitty Green.

Scorsese’s “Killers of the Flower Moon,” starring Leonardo DiCaprio, Robert De Niro and Lily Gladstone, is a headline gala at the festival. He will be in conversation with filmmaker Edgar Wright about his body of work.

Gerwig, an accomplished actor, co-directed “Nights and Weekends” and made her solo feature directorial debut with “Lady Bird,” followed by “Little Women,” both of which scored Oscar and BAFTA nominations. Her latest effort, “Barbie,” is currently the biggest global hit of 2023 with more than $1.4 billion at the box office.

Fennell is the author of three books, writer of the second series of “Killing Eve,” co-creator of a revamped musical version of “Cinderella” and an actor whose work includes “Anna Karenina,” “Vita & Virginia,” “Any Human Heart,” “Call the Midwife” and “The Crown.” In 2019, she wrote and directed her feature debut “Promising Young Woman,” which won two BAFTAs and an Oscar. Her sophomore feature, “Saltburn,” opens this year’s London Film Festival. Fennell will discuss her career, both in front of and behind the camera, during her talk.

Haigh, whose credits include the acclaimed “45 Years,” “Weekend,” “The North Water” and “Lean on Pete,” will discuss his career to date, culminating in “All of Us Strangers,” which is also a headline gala at the festival.

Wang’s celebrated works include “Posthumous” and “The Farewell,” and she will discuss these and her new Prime Video series “Expats,” an adaptation of Janice Y. K. Lee’s bestselling novel, which delves into the dynamics of Hong Kong’s wealthy expat community.

“Ukraine Is Not a Brothel,” “Casting JonBenet” and “The Assistant” filmmaker Kitty Green’s latest film, Australia-set backpacker thriller “The Royal Hotel,” is competing for the best film award at this year’s festival.

The festival runs Oct. 4-15.
