Town & Country has reported extensively on the "bird beat," and no one rules the roost better than Martha Stewart and her coterie (above, please enjoy this vintage photo of Martha and her geese in 1976). The lifestyle expert and queen of bucolic living loves the hundreds of animals at her farm in upstate New York, including dogs, cats, donkeys, horses, and, of course, birds. So when the New York Post reported that Stewart had 16 peacocks, she quickly tweeted back that it was "fake news" and she has 21 peacocks in her coop (up one peacock from when she sat down with T&C two years ago for an interview).

It's fair to assume that Stewart's tweet was meant to be slightly ironic. The Post stayed in character for its correction, adding: "Editors note: This story originally reported that Martha Stewart has 16 peacocks. Stewart clarified via Twitter that she actually has 21 “glorious” and impeccably clean peacocks."

Stewart is an avid bird owner with hundreds of heirloom chickens and geese, which she will gift to friends and fellow bird-lovers like neighbor and designer Chris Spitzmiller. And her coop is the chicest in town. She reported on Instagram earlier this year that a mute swan had joined her flock unannounced. After letting it rest and recuperate for a few days, Stewart called a local wildlife organization to come pick up the swan for medical attention Clearly, the swan knew just where to land for help.

For her four-legged creatures, Stewart has launched a line of CBD treats for dogs, proving yet again that when it comes to living well, Martha's pets also know best—her 21 glorious peacocks included.
