Martha Stewart Is Joining Forces with Marijuana Company to Create CBD Products for Humans and Pets

From canapés to cannabis!

Martha Stewart is known for being a lifestyle expert and a culinary virtuoso and now she is adding marijuana master to her long list of titles.

The star is expanding her empire by teaming up with cannabis company Canopy Growth to develop a line of Cannabidiol (CBD) products, it was announced Thursday.

However, fans of Stewart will have to wait until they can try her products as her first CBD collaboration will actually cater to animals.

“I am delighted to establish this partnership with Canopy Growth and share with them the knowledge I have gained after years of experience in the subject of living,” Stewart, 77, said in a statement. “I’m especially looking forward to our first collaboration together, which will offer sensible products for people’s beloved pets.”

CBD does not get users — or their pets — high but has been credited with providing numerous health benefits including pain relief and also helping to manage anxiety.

While Stewart and a cannabis company may seem like a strange partnership, Canopy Growth said she was an obvious choice due to her passion for animals and wellness as well as her decades of retail experience.

“As soon as you hear the name Martha, you know exactly who we’re talking about,” Canopy Growth Chairman and co-CEO, Bruce Linton said. “Martha is one of a kind and I am so excited to be able to work alongside this icon to sharpen our CBD product offerings across categories from human to animal.”

With the partnership, Stewart follows in the footsteps of her close friend and outspoken cannabis lover Snoop Dogg, who teamed up with Tweed, a Canopy Growth subsidiary, in 2016.

The pair currently star on their cooking-meets-talk show Martha & Snoop’s Potluck Dinner Party, and though their friendship may have been an unlikely one, the rapper said their connection extends well beyond the TV screen.

“We have an appreciation for each other and that makes any friendship genuine,” Snoop, 47, told PEOPLE last February. “It makes it work, appreciating what someone brings to the table.”

Despite the cheeky name of their VH1 series and having baked “green brownies” together, Snoop said their hangouts don’t involve smoking pot together. “I ain’t never smoked with Martha. I’ve smoked around her, but she don’t partake,” he said with a laugh.

Snoop, who first met Stewart in 2008 when he appeared on an episode of her lifestyle show Martha, felt like they were destined to meet and work together.

“You couldn’t have written this 10 years ago, and the thought that we’d have a TV show,” he said. “But people are meant for each other, especially when it’s the right environment, the right scenario, the right spirit. It’s supposed to be.”

Snoop added: “Anytime you’re around anybody that long, you pick up on the things that made them great. She’s been great for a long time, and I’m trying to follow in her footsteps and do some of the great things she’s done alongside with her.”

In addition to cannabis, Stewart has also previously partnered with Payless for an affordable line of footwear and Macy’s for a collection of home fragrances, as well as launched her own curated collection of wines called Martha Stewart Wine Co.
