‘Married… With Children’ Co-Creator Michael G. Moye Lists Greenwich Estate (EXCLUSIVE)

The stately Greenwich, Conn., estate of pioneering sitcom writer, producer and creator turned photographer Michael G. Moye has come available for sale with an asking price of $8.595 million. Moye, who wrote for legendary sitcoms “Good Times” and “The Jeffersons” before he co-developed the late-’80s series “227” and, with Ron Leavitt, created the ground-breaking, brutally ribald and lucratively syndicated sitcom “Married… With Children,” acquired the 18.43-acre property in the swanky Conyers Farm development in 1992 for $1.5 million. A long, gated drive meanders through the mostly wooded estate and lends a sense of romantic seclusion to the faux-timbered and ivy-embellished English Manor house, dubbed Stonehaven, that contains a total of six bathrooms and eight full and four half bathrooms in 13,749-square-feet spread over three luxuriously appointed floors.

A discreet porch with built-in benches for shoe removal opens to a limestone floored foyer with grandiose double-height ceiling. Wood trimmed archways mark entrance to elegantly proportioned formal living and dining rooms, the former with a carved stone fireplace and a honeycomb-pattern tracery ceiling detail and the latter lined in gridded wainscoting that extends nearly to the ceiling. A mahogany-paneled office/library is warmed by an imposing corner fireplace, the center-island chef’s kitchen is open over a snack counter to a breakfast room and a screening room features a fireplace and an automated movie screen that drops down out of the ceiling.

Front and rear stairs lead to the upper floor where there are four ample guest bedrooms, each with walk-in closet and private bathroom, plus a self-contained staff or guest apartment with one bedroom, one bathroom and a living/dining room with full kitchen. Privately ensconced in a wing of its own, the master suite comprises a huge bedroom with voluminous vaulted ceiling, a sitting area with fireplace and French doors to a private terrace along with custom-fitted dressing rooms and walk-in closets and two lavishly finished bathrooms.

An immense lower level incorporates a games/family room with wood beamed ceiling, vintage terra-cotta floor tiles, a walk-in wet bar, a tile accented fireplace and French doors to the swimming pool. There’s also a children’s play room, a photography studio, a fully-stocked gym with spa-style attached bathroom, a relaxation lounge with a 500-gallon in-wall fish tank and a flagstone-paved screened-in dining terrace.

A slender deck accessible from most rooms wraps around almost the entire main floor and the estate’s carefully maintained gardens include intimate nooks and crannies for quiet repose, a great sweep of lawn at the sunny, south end of the house and a heated swimming pool and spa set into a tree-shaded glade, ringed by broad stone terracing and overlooked by an octagonal screened-in pavilion.

Conyers Farm was developed in the 1980s by billionaire paper tycoon Peter Brant as the epitome of an über-luxury housing tract with 95 ten-plus-acre estates and some of the plush pads behind the rustically ritzy enclave’s hallowed gates have been owned by tennis icon Ivan Lendl, former CNN anchor Paula Zahn and filmmaker Ron Howard who sold a 33-acre spread and its 17,200-square-foot neo-Victorian mansion in 2014 for $27.5 million.

Moye, now in his 60s, previously owned a home in the affluent Royal Oaks neighborhood in Encino, Calif., that was quietly sold earlier this year for $1.65 million in a what appears to have been an off-market deal and he continues to own a remarkably unremarkable but nicely located two-story residence of almost 2,000-square-feet on nearly half of an acre just a short block from the sugar sand beaches on North Carolina’s spectacular Hattras Island that he scooped up in 2006 for $550,000.
