Marriage Proposal Turns Into Hilarious Prank on ‘Late Late Show‘

James Corden was playing a game with audience members on The Late Late Show on Tuesday when he surprised one lucky lady. James was talking to Chloe Evans, who was out with her girlfriends on Valentine’s Day because her boyfriend, Matt, was working overseas. As they were talking about Matt, James said, “I actually know quite a lot about you, Chloe.” With a shocked look on her face, James went on to explain to Chloe that Matt had gotten in touch with the show and had a video message for his girlfriend.

But, during Matt’s video message, James stopped and said, “Stay right there.” Then the curtain opened behind James and Chloe as Matt rode out on a giant heart made out of roses. After they hugged, Matt started telling Chloe how much he loved her and then got down on one knee and proposed.

This is where it started to become evident that something strange was going on because Chloe started shaking her head and whispering, “No, I can’t do this.” With the rest of the audience in shock, a massive celebration started surrounding the arguing couple that included a large banner, dancers, and Girls star Andrew Rannells, singing “Marry You” by Bruno Mars.

By the end of the song, it was clear that the whole thing was just an elaborate prank. With confetti falling around them, James started to question Matt and complain about the time and money wasted on the failed proposal. The host continued the prank all the way to the end, saying, “This is … supposed to be a wonderful moment of television … like Ellen!”

The Late Late Show With James Corden airs weeknights at 12:37 a.m. on CBS.
