Speaking with PEOPLE on Thursday night at the National Board of Review Gala in New York City, Ruffalo, 56, addressed the moment he planted a smooch on his Poor Things costar, 32, right after their film was announced the winner of best picture, musical or comedy.

"Mark, that Golden Globes kiss with Ramy — tell me about it!" Ruffalo was asked.

"It was hot!" he replied with a smile, before continuing down the red carpet alongside his wife of 23 years, Sunrise Coigney.

Both Ruffalo and Youssef talked about the kiss following the ceremony in a chat with Entertainment Tonight alongside their Poor Things costars Emma Stone and Willem Dafoe.

"Well, my mouth [was] going towards his mouth ... " said Youssef, before Ruffalo jumped in, "And then the next thing [you know], mine went to his."

"And where was Willem all this time?" director Yorgos Lanthimos jokingly asked the pair.

"I was watching," said Dafoe, 68. "Just waiting for the correct time to say the right thing!"

"And now's the time!" Ruffalo joked.

Stone, 35, Dafoe and Ruffalo each received Globes acting nominations (with a win for Stone!) for Poor Things, while Lanthimos was nominated for best director. The film also received nods for best screenplay and best original score at this year's Globes.

During his Globes acceptance speech for best picture, musical or comedy, Lanthimos, 50, opened by shouting out a very special attendee whom he has looked up to for much of his life.

"I just wanted to speak to Bruce Springsteen the whole night," said the filmmaker. "We have the same birthday, 23rd of September. He's been my hero since I grew up."

Aside from Springsteen, 74, Lanthimos went on to express his gratitude for the Poor Things cast and crew, including Stone, whom he called "the best."
