Mark-Paul Gosselaar Joins Peacock’s ‘Saved by the Bell’ Reboot
Zack Morris is returning to Bayside High.
After previously saying publicly that he had not been approached to reprise his role on the upcoming reboot of “Saved by the Bell,” Mark-Paul Gosselaar has closed a deal to join the new streaming series, TheWrap has learned. His co-star, Tiffani Thiessen is also in talks to appear on the show, though her deal has not yet closed.
In addition to guest starring, Gosselaar will also serve as a producer on the new “Saved by the Bell,” which is set to air on NBC Universal’s forthcoming streaming service, Peacock.

Representatives for Peacock and Universal Television declined to comment.
Shortly after the reboot was announced last fall, Gosselaar told reporters that he had not been approached to appear on the show, despite the series logline calling out his character as the new governor of California. Earlier this week, however, the actor hinted that there may have been some movement on the issue, telling the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, “Everybody can sleep well at night … It looks like you will have us in some capacity.”
Gosselaar currently stars on ABC’s “mixed-ish,” which precludes him from returning to the show in a series regular capacity. He joins original cast members Mario Lopez and Elizabeth Berkley, who had already been confirmed to reprise their roles as A.C. Slater and Jessie Spano, respectively.
Announced last fall as one of the original scripted programs that will run on NBCUniversal’s forthcoming streaming service Peacock, “Saved by the Bell” will center on a new generation of kids at the show’s central Bayside High nearly three decades later. According to the series logline, Gosselaar’s character has since graduated and moved on to the California governor’s office within the world of the show.

“Champions” alum Josie Totah will star on the show as Lexi, “the most popular girl at Bayside High who is both admired and feared by her fellow students.” “Pitch Perfect” alum John Michael Higgins will play Principle Toddman, the successor to Bayside High School Principal Richard Belding, played by Dennis Haskins in the original series.
The reboot hails from Universal Television and will be written and executive produced by Tracey Wigfield. Peter Engel and Franco Bario, alums of the original “Saved by the Bell” and its spinoffs, will also serve as executive producers.
