Mark Hamill is wishing the late Carrie Fisher a happy birthday!

On Sunday, one day after Fisher, who died in Dec. 2016 after a heart attack, would have turned 67, Hamill shared an undated throwback photo of himself and his Star Wars costar sharing a kiss on Instagram.

A second photo showed Hamill, 72, planting a kiss on Fisher's forehead in a moment from filmmaker Rian Johnson's 2017 Star Wars movie The Last Jedi.

"For Carrie Frances: 🎂," Hamill wrote in the caption to his post. The actor added in parentheses: "(with fond memories of a lifetime of 😂🤣 & 💋💋)"

Hamill and Fisher shared a lifelong bond as two-thirds of the original Star Wars films' lead actors, along with costar Harrison Ford. All three actors returned for the recent sequel trilogy, though the films' storyline and Fisher's death prior to The Last Jedi's release prevented a full onscreen reunion for Luke Skywalker, Leia Organa and Han Solo.

Filmmaker J.J. Abrams utilized unused footage of Fisher from 2015's The Force Awakens for Fisher's posthumous appearance in 2019's The Rise of Skywalker. Fisher, who received a star on Los Angeles' Hollywood Walk of Fame in May, saw her final movie Wonderwell finally receive a release in North America, the U.K. and Ireland in June.

Hamill spoke to his decades-long friendship with Fisher while speaking with Esquire in May, during which he noted that the pair "had a tumultuous relationship" off-screen.

"We could be as loving and supportive as possible, then we could have big arguments and say, 'Well, I never want to speak to you again,' and not speak for six months," Hamill said at the time.

"But every time you came back, you picked up right where you left off. We had a connection that is special," he added.

Hamill was in attendance for Fisher's Walk of Fame ceremony in May and even gave a speech at the event. The actor described Fisher as "wise beyond her years" from the moment they met during his speech.

"It would've been so perfect had she been there," Hamill told Esquire of the ceremony. "Not only to see how much people loved her, but because she would've made everything much funnier."

"She lived to make others laugh," he said. "And it was always a point of satisfaction for me to be able to make her laugh."

Hamill has made a point of marking the late Fisher's birthday with Instagram posts every October since 2016. "Being happy isn't getting what you want, it's wanting what you have," he wrote in a 2019 caption alongside a post showing a black-and-white photo of the pair dancing together.
