Jared Leto’s Joker may be getting the bulk of the attention with Suicide Squad now in theaters — even more so with reports many of his scenes were scrapped from the final cut — but let’s not forget that Mark Hamill’s version of Batman’s biggest foe is having a moment, too. The animated movie based on the Batman: The Killing Joke graphic novel led into its home video release with a successful two-day run in select theaters in late July, with Hamill voicing the key role as the Gotham villain.

Shedding the heroic image of Luke Skywalker, Hamill has voiced the Joker in various animated Batman projects since the ’90s. Before the release of Star Wars: Episode VIII, Hamill will be heard as the Joker in the new Justice League Action TV series — and, apparently, any other time the mood strikes him. Take the Instagram video below, posted by DC Entertainment publisher Jim Lee, which shares the voicemail greeting Hamill recorded for him in the Joker’s voice. Putting his brilliant maniacal laugh to good use, Hamill’s Joker lets callers know that Lee can’t come to the phone right now, possibly because he’s hanging over a vat of acid — or it could be he’s just focused on his deadlines. Listen to the message below.
