Mark Hamill Corrects ‘SNL’ on Luke and Leia ‘Incest’ Joke From Original ‘Star Wars’

Looks like Mark Hamill was also watching Eddie Murphy’s “Saturday Night Live” return this week, as the actor caught a “Star Wars” joke from “SNL” that he felt compelled to correct.

“Weekend Update” host Michael Che said that there was some internet outrage over a brief lesbian kiss scene at the end of “Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker,” and he joked, alongside a picture of Luke and Leia kissing, that it’s “pretty tame considering the first movie had incest.”

Hamill responded that it’s not actually incest if they didn’t know they were brother and sister yet…right?

“WRONG! Since Luke & Leia were totally unaware that they were related in any way whatsoever-what they did was actually #Innocestuous,” Hamill said jokingly in a tweet on Monday.

He also shared more than a few steamy photos of himself and Carrie Fisher from the films to show that everything is definitely certainly above board here. “Star Wars” fans know that Luke and Leia didn’t actually learn they were brother and sister until “Return of the Jedi.”

This wouldn’t be the first time Hamill has joked about inadvertently kissing his on-screen sister. He’s used the same #Innocestuous hashtag on at least three separate occasions, which you can see below.

But Hamill also addressed another LGBTQ “Star Wars” moment that goes beyond that lesbian kiss in the ninth film. Ahead of “The Rise of Skywalker,” a number of “Star Wars” fans had created some online fan fiction starring John Boyega’s Finn and Oscar Isaac’s Poe Dameron imagining a scenario where the two characters are gay and in love.

“Luke never met either Finn or Poe, so what they do behind closed doors I guess I’ll never know… But I would like to also note that love is love Whatever floats your boat. #LGBTerrific,” Hamill also said on Monday in response to a tweet of Finn and Poe showing off their bromance.
