Mark Consuelos Teases Wife Kelly Ripa's Role on Riverdale: 'It's Going to Get Crazy'

The entire Consuelos family is heading to Riverdale.

After Mark Consuelos and Kelly Ripa‘s son Michael played a younger version of his father’s character in a special throwback episode, it was announced that Ripa also has an upcoming role on the hit CW show — playing her husband’s mistress!

Consuelos, who is partnering with McCafé at Home to encourage people to stick with their New Years resolutions as part of the company’s Brew Happier campaign, tells PEOPLE that he’s “excited” about his wife appearing on the show, adding that they have already filmed the episode in which Ripa appears.

“I’m really excited about that,” says Consuelos, 47. “The Consuelos family one by one is going be on Riverdale. I love it!”

Ripa, 48, announced the news in November on Instagram post. “It’s a family affair…Hiram’s mistress. 23 years of auditioning for a role I was born to play,” she captioned a photo of her on set.

“It was so much fun,” Consuelos says of filming with Ripa. “We got to spend the weekend up in Vancouver [where Riverdale is filmed] and we had a nice little weekend there.”

Ripa and Consuelos have been married for 22 years and share three children: Michael, 21, Lola, 17, and Joaquin, 15.

The couple joked around on their Instagram Stories while filming together in November.

“Bring side piece to work day,” Consuelos quipped, before Ripa retaliated with, “I’m usually against mistresses but this time I’ll make an exception.”

Consuelos also teased what’s coming next on the hit show, which premiered the second half of its third season this week.

“It’s going to get super, super crazy in the best possible way,” Consuelos tells PEOPLE. “Buckle up!”

“I love the stuff that’s coming with my character,” he adds. “I feel like it’s going to be a great second half of the season.”

Riverdale airs Wednesdays (8 p.m. ET) on The CW.
